Travis Kelce's ex Kayla Nicole chokes back tears after reaction to his podcast comments: My mom was 'furious'
Travis Kelce's ex-girlfriend Kayla Nicole broke down in tears as she reflected on the online backlash after discussing their former relationship on the “Unapologetically Angel” podcast.
“After the podcast came out, I thought I handled things with grace,” the sports broadcaster said on Tuesday's episode of “I Am the Athlete Daily.”
“I thought I answered the questions to the best of my ability. The public had their interpretation of things – I don't care.”
While the model and influencer wasn't bothered by the social media backlash at first, her mother called and expressed concern.
“Even though my mom calls me — and it's those conversations … that's what's important to me,” Nicole continued.
“Because she's angry, she's hurt by the way people are perceiving her daughter, the negative headlines and the way people are spinning it.”
The visibly emotional 32-year-old then laughed as she shared her mother's advice.
“My mom was like, 'Maybe next time, we won't answer that question,' and it's as simple as that. It's not about power. You don't always have to respond,” Nicole said.
Earlier in the episode, Nicole wiped away tears as she explained the lessons she learned amid the media frenzy surrounding her ex Kels' relationship with Taylor Swift.
“I think it's in my nature to be myself and lead with myself and myself and people don't deserve that.”
“Because it will not always be received with the intention that I intend to receive it. I have no control over public perception.”
Nicole came under fire last week when she discussed a variety of topics on Thursday's episode of the “Unapologetically Angel” podcast, including her former romance with the Kansas City Chiefs and the “crazy” reason she dressed up as Teyana Taylor for Halloween.
The fitness influencer addressed rumors that Kells, 35, was “cheap” and split the bills 50/50 during their relationship, calling the claims “ridiculous”.
“Do I look like someone who would split something?” He quipped in response to a question from host Angel Reese. “Yeah, it was never an issue in our relationship but it was definitely a rumor on the internet.”
Nicole was also slammed for dressing up as Taylor, 33, for Halloween after Iman Shumpert allegedly dumped her for the R&B artist.
He ruffled feathers when he referred to the “Coming 2 America” star as “a famous singer/actress at the time.”
In response, Taylor threw shade at Nicole by sharing a carousel of her upcoming projects on Instagram along with Swift's hit song “Shake It Off.”
“I know 2025 hated to see a Taylor come!! ❤️🔥🌹🎥🎬🎞️ 💸,” the mother of two captioned the post. “Me: You've grown so much 🙏🏾 God: And you did 🤲🏾.”
