Tracking Tropical Storm Francine: Interactive storm radar, latest cone and impacts
AUBREY, APPRECIATE THE REPORT. SO WE ARE WATCHING THOSE WESTERN ZONES VERY CLOSELY. THEY’RE THE ONES THAT WILL BE CLOSEST TO POTENTIAL LANDFALL OUT OF FRANCINE. THE CURRENT STRUCTURE EARLIER IN THE DAY, WIDESPREAD RAIN SHIELD. BUT IT WASN’T WITH INTENSE STORM ACTIVITY. LOOK, AS THE STRUCTURE STARTS TO TIGHTEN UP HERE. EYEWALL FORMATION. THOSE STORMS GETTING MORE INTENSE. BUT I AM SEEING THE POTENTIAL HERE THAT THERE MIGHT BE SOME DRY AIR INTRUSION. AND THAT WOULD BE GOOD TO LIMIT THE STRENGTHENING. THE LATEST TRACK FROM THE NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER, POSSIBLY A HURRICANE LATE TONIGHT, STAYING JUST OFF THE COAST OF MEXICO. HERE, TEXAS. THEN WE’RE LOOKING OVERNIGHT TUESDAY INTO WEDNESDAY, A POSSIBLE CATEGORY TWO, THE POTENTIAL FOR LANDFALL WEST. THIS IS GOING TO BE VERMILION BAY. AND WE LOOK TO AREAS ABOUT PECAN ISLAND. A SMALL COMMUNITY RIGHT NOW THAT TRACK TAKES IT JUST OVER THE TOWN. COULD BE WEDNESDAY DURING THE DAY THAT RIGHT NOW WITH THE TIMING MIGHT BE THE WORST PART OF THE STORM FOR EVERYBODY HERE IN SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA. MORNING ALL THE WAY UP UNTIL LATE NIGHT. SO THIS LOOKS TO BE A WEDNESDAY EVENT THAT IT COMES TO, RIGHT AT THIS POINT. SO LET’S SEE SOME OF THE ANALYSIS AS WELL. THEY’RE VERY WARM WATERS. IT’S MOVING THROUGH VERY HIGH HUMIDITY. BUT SURROUNDING THE SYSTEM THERE IS SOME DRIER AIR. WE’LL WATCH THAT CLOSELY. BUT IT COULD BE THAT IT’S GOING TO BE THE WIND SHEAR THAT THIS MEETS AS IT GETS JUST OFF THE COAST OF LOUISIANA OVERNIGHT TUESDAY TO WEDNESDAY. THAT COULD REALLY SPEED UP THE STORM. AND IT WILL IT COULD ALSO START TO TEAR THE STORM APART AND ALSO PUT IT IN A WEAKENING PROCESS BEFORE IT MAKES LANDFALL. THAT WOULD BE GOOD FOR US AS WELL. I WANT TO SHOW YOU THE ALERTS. HURRICANE WATCH IS STILL IN EFFECT FOR LAFOURCHE AND TERREBONNE PARISHES AND GRAND ISLE. SO AGAIN, THAT’S STILL A WATCH. THE POTENTIAL THAT WE SEE A SHIFT IN THE TRACK STILL THERE. THE HURRICANE WARNINGS ARE MORE WEST OF US AT THIS POINT. LAFOURCHE. TERREBONNE. YOU’RE UNDER TROPICAL STORM WARNINGS RIGHT NOW. AND LOWER JEFFERSON PARISH TO INCLUDE GRAND ISLE, BUT WE’RE UNDER TROPICAL STORM WATCHES. AGAIN, A GOOD TIME TO SAY THE WATCH MEANS WE’RE WATCHING. WE’RE ON STANDBY RIGHT NOW. WHERE IT’S MORE CONFIDENT THAT WE ARE GOING TO AT LEAST EXPERIENCE TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS. THAT’S WHERE YOU’RE UNDER THE WARNING RIGHT NOW. BUT THE ONLY PLACES OFFICIALLY HERE IN OUR SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA VIEWING AREA THAT’S LAFOURCHE AND TERREBONNE PARISHES. THIBODAUX HOUMA RACELAND GOING TO LOOK AT GRAY THERE, TOO, JUST TO NAME A FEW. SO IT’S THE TRACK THAT’S STILL NOT REALLY IN GREAT CONSENSUS. THAT’S STILL A LOW CONFIDENCE FORECAST FROM THE HURRICANE TRACKS. THE NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER. WE GET ENSEMBLE TRACKS COMING IN FROM OUR COMPUTER FORECAST HERE OUT OF THE US. THESE ARE ONES FROM THE FROM EUROPE. AND STILL THAT CONSENSUS TRACK DOES KEEP IT WELL WEST OF NEW ORLEANS. BUT WHAT WE’RE CERTAIN ABOUT IS MORE GOING TO BE THE TIMING DURING THE DAY. AGAIN, WEDNESDAY LOOKS TO BE THE DAY AT ITS CURRENT SPEED IN RATE AND WHERE THE POSITION IS. BUT WHAT’S HIGHER? CONFIDENCE IN THE FORECAST IS A LOT OF RAIN IS GOING TO COME WITH THIS. WE HEARD THIS WITH AUBREY’S REPORT IN OUR PARISH PRESIDENT DISCUSSING VERY HEAVY RAINFALL RECENTLY, AND WE’RE GOING TO HAVE MORE OF THAT. SO THAT WOULD BE NUMBER ONE ON MY LIST OF THE BIGGEST, BIGGEST THREAT TO ALL OF US. SO HIGH RESOLUTION FORECASTS. THIS IS TUESDAY MORNING. THE STORM LOOKING PRETTY INTENSE. BY TUESDAY EVENING CLOSING IN CLOSE TO THE COAST HERE. THIS IS PRETTY INTENSE ACTIVITY. LOOK AT THIS. THIS IS EARLY WEDNESDAY MORNING AT 5 A.M. POSSIBLE LANDFALL. BUT THIS IS A LITTLE FARTHER EAST THAN SHOWN WITH THOSE PREVIOUS OFFICIAL FORECAST MIDDAY. WHAT I DON’T WANT TO SEE HERE, THESE LEADING STORMS UNFORTUNATELY. YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS. BEING ON THE EAST SIDE OF IT. THOSE COULD SPIN. AND THAT’S A TORNADO RISK. SO THAT COULD BE ONE OF OUR BIGGEST FACTORS TO GET THROUGH TO LOWER RESOLUTION FORECAST FROM OUR GLOBAL FORECASTS. THEY GO A LITTLE BIT MORE WITH THE LATEST DATA RIDING THROUGH VERMILION BAY AS WELL. IN THE FORECAST OUT OF EUROPE AND THE LATEST ONE HERE DOES ALSO CONFIRM, WELL, IT’S A LITTLE BIT FARTHER WEST. YOU SEE THAT ONE IS A LITTLE BIT MORE WESTWARD. AND RIGHT IN THE AREA WHERE THE NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER HAS THE OFFICIAL TRACK. SO LET’S PUT THEM ALL TOGETHER. WEDNESDAY, OUR IN-HOUSE HIGH RES DATA RIGHT HERE. THERE’S VERMILION BAY AND THERE’S GOING TO BE TERREBONNE PARISH. SO IT’S A LITTLE BIT CLOSER TO US. THAT’S WHAT WE DON’T WANT TO SEE. THE SIMILAR FORECAST HERE OUT OF THE US ALSO HAS A CIRCULATION CLOSER TO LAFOURCHE PARISHES. BUT THE FORECAST OUT OF EUROPE IS A LITTLE BIT FARTHER WEST HERE. BUT YOU DO SEE THERE ARE STILL CHANCES THAT THERE ARE DIFFERENCES IN TRACK. SO THAT’S GOING TO BE OUR THING TO WATCH THAT CLOSELY, CONVEY IT TO YOU REALLY. THAT’S GOING TO BE THE RAINFALL. LOOK AT THIS TRACK. POTENTIALLY YOU GET TEN INCHES OF RAIN TO COME. THAT’S NOT OUT OF QUESTION. A LEVEL THREE RISK ALREADY UP FOR FLOODING GOING INTO WEDNESDAY. FLOOD WATCHES ALREADY IN EFFECT GOES THROUGH THURSDAY MORNING TOO. HERE’S A LOOK AT THE WINDS. I KNOW WE REALLY LOOK AT THE WINDS. THIS IS WHAT WE LOOK AT. IS THIS MEAN POWER OUTAGES. OUR HIGH RES DATA DO SHOW 4050, 60, POSSIBLY 70 MILE PER HOUR. THOSE ARE GUSTS. BUT AGAIN, DOES SHOW STRONG WINDS. STORM SURGE IS ALSO A BIG ISSUE AS WELL. BUT THE SEVERE THREAT THE POTENTIAL THAT WE COULD GET SOME TORNADOES STARTS AS SOON AS TOMORROW. SOUTHERN LAFOURCHE AND TERREBONNE PARISHES, SLIM CHANCE. A LOW LEVEL RISK OF TORNADOES. IT’S WEDNESDAY’S RISK OF TORNADOES THAT COULD REALLY BE IN PLAY. SO FOR LAFOURCHE, TERREBONNE RIGHT NOW THE TROPICAL STORM ALERTS YOU’RE UNDER THE WATCH. BUT THE TORNADO THREAT STORM SURGE AND THE EXTENSIVE RANGING FROM IMPACTS THAT’S A BIG DEAL. BUT WE NEED TO PREPARE NOW. HEAD TO THE GROCERY STORES. MAKE SURE YOUR MEDS ARE STARTING TO BE FILLED. CHECK THE GENERATORS, GET THEM WITH FUEL. THE PLAN FOR THE PETS. BUT YOU KNOW WHAT? WE’RE ALL IN THIS. I THINK WE CAN STAY CALM AND WE’LL GET THROUGH IT RIGHT NOW, THIS LOOKS TO JUST BRUSH THE AREA MOST OF US WEST, SO THE ALERT DAYS TO PREPARE TOMORROW THROUGH WEDNESDAY, WHEN IT REALLY
