Tony Buzbee: New Deshaun Watson Meets NFL Alleged, Has “Relevant” Video
As explained on Thursday PFT is liveThere are two important current questions about the latest lawsuit against Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson.
First, will the accused cooperate with the NFL's investigation?
Second, was this potential claim disclosed to the Browns in writing when Watson signed his contract in 2022?
There is an answer to the first question.
“We intend to interview with the NFL within two weeks,” attorney Tony Buzby said in a statement issued to PFT. “Next week, however, I have to go to a Coast Guard hearing in South Carolina about the Titan submersible explosion because I'm representing the family of a victim from there. When I return I want to make my client available for interviews with two people who spoke with him immediately after the attack. I have videos to share that will be relevant.”
While cooperation from the accused does not mean that Watson will remain suspended, the case cannot begin without it. The league does not have the authority to compel anyone not employed by the NFL or one of its teams to provide information or testify.
If the claim is not on the list of possible cases exempt from contractual default, then Watson has a very important problem. Because of the remaining fully guaranteed payments on the contract, that's a $92 million problem.
For now, we don't know if the new case is on the list. We tried to get an answer. The fact that we haven't gotten one yet might point to a conclusion that, no, this case wasn't on the list, and yes, $92 million in Watson's future guarantee is at stake.
