Tom Brady reacts to Buccaneers QB Baker Mayfield saying team was under pressure: 'It wasn't daycare'

Retirement hasn't made Tom Brady any less competitive.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers reacted harshly to quarterback Baker Mayfield during the broadcast of Sunday's game between the seven-time Super Bowl champion Buccaneers and the Philadelphia Eagles.

On the “Casa de Clube” podcast earlier this month, Mayfield described the atmosphere in Tampa Bay under Brady — who played three seasons with the team before retiring after the 2022 season — as stressful.

“The building was a little different with Tom. Obviously, game-wise, Tom is different. He dialed everybody up, in a high-strung environment, so I think everybody was under a lot of pressure,” Mayfield said. “They wanted me to come in, be myself, bring joy back to football that wasn't having much fun.”

Brady didn't hold back in his response to Mayfield, citing his lack of championships and defending his mentality.

“I thought the Super Bowl wasn't ringing because of the pressure,” Brady said. “Having the mentality of a champion is what I take to work every day. It wasn't daycare. If I wanted to have fun, I'd go to Disneyland with my kids.”

Brady then added: “This game has a way to go. … have high expectations for us. We have to make sure we get there and deliver.”

After a comment from his broadcast partner Kevin Burkhardt that the competitive juices were still flowing, Brady said, “Still there. No apologies.”

Mayfield, however, played well in the first half against the Eagles. He threw for two touchdowns and ran for another, leading the Bucs to an early 24–0 lead.
