Timothée Chalamet breaks up his own lookalike competition after police shut down the crowded event
NEW YORK (AP) — The actor Timothee Chalamet It made a surprise appearance at its own look-alike contest in Lower Manhattan on Sunday, a well-attended event that prompted a crackdown from police and at least one arrest.
Flanked by bodyguards, Chalamet posed for photos with his high-cheeked, curly-haired doppelgangers, some of whom played characters such as Willy Wonka and Paul Atreides. “Onka” and the movie “Dune”. At times, adoring fans draw attention to their vision, apparently thinking they are face to face with the real Chalamet.
The event, advertised on flyers around New York, is one of several look-alike contests hosted by YouTube personality Anthony Poe. As word spread on social media, thousands of people RSVP'd to the event, which promised $50 to the winner.
But minutes after the pageant began — and before the actor made his entrance — police ordered the large group to disperse from Washington Square Park, and organizers were fined $500 for an “unauthorized costume contest.” At least one contestant was led away in handcuffs, though police did not immediately say why.
“It started as a silly joke and now it's turned into parademonium,” said Paige Nguyen, a producer at YouTube Creator.
Most of the wannabe-chalamets and visitors have moved to a new park.
On a makeshift stage, the look-alikes were asked about their romantic plans Kylie Jenner. Jenner and Chalamet are said to be a couple. They were asked to demonstrate their French skills and what they would do to make the world a better place.
Finally, the audience chose a winner: Myles Mitchell, a Staten Island resident and college senior. Dressed in a purple Willy Wonka outfit, he tosses candy from a briefcase into a crowd of young admirers.
“I'm excited and I'm overwhelmed,” Mitchell said. “There were so many good look-alikes. It was really a toss up.”
