The Yankees make shock World Series Game 4 lineup changes — but not what you think
With the season on the line, the Yankees have indeed made some changes to the lineup.
But they may not be what fans wanted or expected.
Aaron Boone slotted Jazz Chisholm as the cleanup hitter, leaving Giancarlo Stanton — the team's hottest hitter — down in the fifth of Tuesday night's Game 4 of the World Series.
Austin Wells has also been reinstated as the starting catcher, hitting eighth in the order.
Aaron Judge, whose struggles have been well-publicized all postseason, is still firmly in third place.
The Dodgers, up 3-0 in the series, are throwing a “Johnny Holstaff” game against the Yankees, using righty reliever Ben Casparius as their opener.
“Trying to be a little more balanced by having a bullpen day with them, really,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said of the lineup move. “And it's consistent with what I've done all year, like say we're facing a right-handed pitcher, it's a little bit of a rollout.”
Ultimately, Boone said, it was about trying to figure out the matchups against the Dodgers.
Boone also said he was considering moving Judge up to the leadoff spot, but was hesitant to do so with Gleyber Torres improving at the top of the lineup.
