The Raiders could pay some of Davante Adams' salary to facilitate the trade
With Raiders receiver Davante Adams making $983,333 per week in salary plus $30,000 for each game in which he is on the active roster, his remaining compensation could create cap issues for a team that trades for him. Furthermore, the new party may believe that the outstanding balance is higher than it wants to pay.
As a result, some believe the Raiders may have paid some to facilitate the trade.
This would position the Raiders to receive better trade compensation. The less new teams pay, the more new teams may be willing to give up a better package of picks and/or players.
Then there is the future. No one will pay Adams $35.64 million in 2025 Unless a new deal is in place as soon as Adams comes through the door, the trade will become, as a matter of fact, a part-year rental. This will affect the price the new party is willing to surrender.
This is not unprecedented. Teams primarily use cash and cap space to buy draft picks. In that, the Raiders make better picks if they pay something — as they try to build their roster into a contender.
