The Jane's Addiction concert ended abruptly after Perry Farrell threw a punch at Dave Navarro, forcing the crew offstage.

Caught in a fight: A concert by the reunited Jane's Addiction in Boston came to an abrupt end Friday night when a visibly angry Perry Pharrell threw a punch at guitarist Dave Navarro — and while restrained by crew members, he still appeared physically agitated as he was strapped to the stage.

Multiple audience members shared dramatic videos of their brawl from various vantage points in the crowd after the gig ended in disaster. The footage shows the band deep into playing “Ocean Size,” the 11th number in a set that usually stretches to 14 or 15 songs, when trouble breaks out between two of the veteran band's most famous members.

Some fans reported on social media that excitement built up for several songs before things actually got physical. Video of the melee shows Ferrell yelling at onlookers before turning to his right and starting to throw that jab at Navarro in close-up. He aggressively bumped shoulders with the guitarist, who eventually stopped playing and put a hand on Pharrell's chest to put distance. Singer is then seen punching Navarro in the chest area. At that point the three men, including bassist Eric Avery, can be seen yelling “stop” as they surround Pharrell, who is eventually forced offstage by the trio, still visibly struggling with the wings.

Once Pharrell left, the rest of the band — including Navarro — walked to the front of the stage to bid a gentle farewell to the crowd, appearing calm by hugging each other, applauding the audience, tapping their hearts and giving peace signs.

The spat immediately spread on social media, with no shortage of jokes — including countless Oasis comparisons — along with more serious concerns for the well-being of the band members involved.

@deanasc1 on X tweeted, “I was there. Half pissed the show ended early and half excited we might have seen the last of Jane's show.”

A simple tweet came from user @Tribecalledflex, “Jane's addiction broke before Oasis OMG.”

On setlist.fm, the notation section of the Boston show offers an ironic combination of trivia about the gig, reading: “Note: Stephen Perkins' drum kit was decorated with balloons in celebration of his birthday. The set ended early after Perry Farrell punched Dave Navarro.”

Press representatives for Jane's Addiction and the tour promoter, Live Nation, could not immediately be reached for comment Friday night.

Chatter had already spread the word on social media earlier this week about the Jane's Addiction show in New York City, which took place on the rooftop of Pier 51. At the first of two concerts there, Pharrell admitted to the audience that he wasn't in great voice, reportedly saying, “Ladies and gentlemen, I've got to be honest with you. I have some problem with my voice. I suddenly can't get the notes out.” The next day, bandmate Eric Avery posted on Instagram, “Looking forward to another crack at this spectacular rooftop venue tonight. I hope we get better.

The next night in New York, things actually took a turn for the better, according to one Jambase reviewer, who wrote, “I saw Pharrell's condition report on Tuesday, so I was scared as Jane's addiction came. All my fears were quickly dispelled as my first Zen experience was fantastic. Pharrell sings well, Perkins grinds it out behind the kit, Navarro shreds and Avery anchors the band with his steady work. … Some of (Farrell's) stories were compelling and others were when he threw a bottle of wine. He was fixed on a device that I imagine was supposed to add effect to his voice but didn't make much of an impact to my ears. However, when it came to singing the songs, Pharrell nailed most of them.”

Ironically, in light of what's happened since then, the singer stopped a beef at the band's second New York show. “Pharrell actually stopped the next tune after witnessing a fight in the audience,” reported Jambase. “Pharrell had a fan named 'Bobby' who made up with the crowd member he was brawling with.”

Creative Loafing may have a review of the band's Tampa show earlier this month that hinted at some tension between Pharrell and Navarro. The Florida Critic reported: “Pharrell launched into many incoherent ramblings about arguing with his brother about cow pastures, mushrooms, surfing, living in Florida and politics, among other inexplicable comments” while “kissing wine bottles throughout the performance.” … At one point, during one of his ramblings, Navarro deliberately belted out a loud, piercing chord on his guitar, almost silencing Pharrell and getting the show back on track.

Jane's Addiction's first tour in 15 years is a co-headline, with another beloved '90s group, Love & Rockets, sharing the bill.

Friday night's ill-fated Boston show came to about 20 dates on the groups' dual tour itinerary, with 15 to go. As of this writing, the tour is still scheduled to continue and will conclude on October 16 at the YouTube Theater in LA, where the group already performed successfully earlier in their outing in mid-August.
