Savannah Guthrie hints at 'Today' show exit after Hoda Kotb announces exit
Savannah Guthrie seemingly hinted that her time on the “Today” show may be over after Hoda Kotb announced her exit from the morning show.
“We're dear friends and we have a lot in common,” she told Us Weekly Thursday while talking about her co-anchor's departure at Project Healthy Minds' 2nd annual World Mental Health Day event in New York City.
“We're basically at the same stage in life,” he added, seemingly hinting at a potential departure for himself
Page Six has reached out to Guthrie's rep for clarification on his comments.
Guthrie, 52, has been with NBC since 2007 when he became a legal correspondent and appeared on “Today” and “NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams.”
From there, he became a White House correspondent for NBC and hosted the “Daily Rundown” from 2010 to 2011.
He joined the “Today” crew in 2012 as co-host of the show's third hour.
Her possible foreshadowing of her future with the morning newscast came after a show insider told Page Six that “nobody at NBC wants Savannah gone.”
“I think if the bosses had their way he would be here for life,” added our source. “He's the beating heart of 'Today' – there's a lot of support for him.”
The TV insider also noted that “there were rumblings that Savannah was planning her own exit for 2025,” but Kotb's announcement “made that impossible.”
Speaking to Page Six about Kotb's departure at Thursday's World Mental Health Day event, Guthrie said she had mixed emotions upon hearing the big news.
“It's complicated because it's, like, I'm so happy for her and I'm so proud of her as a friend because she's following her heart and it's a big reason for confidence in herself and her future not because she knows what it could be but because He trusts himself and he trusts his gut,” he explained.
“As his friend, I love it. As his morning companion, I will miss him,” he added.
“I'll really, really miss him. We all will, you know? He's irreplaceable to me.”
However, Guthrie seemed grateful that Kotb would still be with NBC when he left “Today.”
“We're family and he's not going too far. He will be on NBC. We will see him,” he said.
It's unclear what Kotb's next professional move will be.
An insider told Page Six before Kotb's announcement that he wants to spend more time with his daughters, Haley, 7, and Hope, 4.
“It's heartbreaking for everyone, but Hoda wants to be able to take her kids to school,” they detailed.
