Ric Flair responds to stepson Sebastian Kidder's suicide in emotional post
Pro wrestling legend Ric Flair has responded to the untimely death of his stepson in an emotional post on social media.
Flair's stepson, Sebastian Kidder, took his own life over the weekend with news of his death on Sunday at the age of 24.
The 75-year-old WWE Hall of Famer had not spoken publicly about Kidder's death until Sunday night.
“I spent hours thinking about what to say. After hearing the news of Sebastian's death, I can only imagine what Wendy and Paul are going through after losing a son around the same age in 2013,” Flair wrote in part of her post.
“I am grateful for the time I had with Sebastian. I have so many great memories and bonding times with her as she grows up!” he later wrote. “He stood by his mother with the whole family—Sofia, Paris and Summer, when I was dying. He was so selfless sharing his mother with me as I was dying. And also, on the death of my son Reid. He is multi-talented and a huge success in the eyes of all and will always be remembered as such.”
Kidder died Saturday after being shot, TMZ reported.
His mother, Wendy Barlow, confirmed Kidder's death to the outlet.
“I am devastated and shocked. It is an epidemic with your youth. and mental health,” says Barlow.
Kidder is Barlow's son and her previous partner with whom she was before marrying Flair in 2018.
Her son Reid died of a drug overdose in March 2013 at the age of 25 and was discovered in a Charlotte hotel room.
TMZ reports that Flair was a part of Kidder's life for over a decade and a half before Barlow and Flair got married.
Flair announced last month that he and Barlow were splitting up.
In an interview on Good Day Atlanta earlier this year, Kidder discussed what it's been like to have Flair in her life for so long.
“A lot of advice, for sure. That's the interesting thing about growing up with Ric Flair as a stepfather, [he] was very different and very unique,” Kidder said, according to Us Weekly. “I mean you go to a family meal and you're just surrounded by fans. You're already exposed to that [by] At a young age, everyone is coming, wanting pictures and autographs. I mean, are there any kids coming over for Post Malone dinner?”
