Report: Officer who arrested Tyreek Hill has been fired six times
In the days since his arrest by Miami-Dade police before a Week 1 game against the Jaguars, Dolphins receiver Tyreek Hill has tried to balance a desire for reconciliation with a call for accountability. He said, in no uncertain terms, that he wants the officer who escalated the situation to be fired.
A new report potentially strengthens Hill's case.
Via Fox Sports 640's Andy Slater, the officer assigned administrative duties following the incident He has been suspended six times in his career. Danny Torres, a 27-year veteran of the department, has been suspended for 20 days.
That history may become highly relevant to internal procedures that will determine the proper disciplinary outcome. He shall have the right to challenge any discipline, and the appropriate mechanism shall resolve any dispute as to the proposed outcome.
Reports posted by Slater suggest that Torres has not been suspended since 2019. A five-year gap between potentially serious consequences may help his cause.
Ultimately, decisions will be made based on standards developed and employed as a broad course of practice within the Miami-Dade Police Department. Obviously, however, the officer's history of suspensions doesn't make things any better for him.
