North Carolina early voting surpasses 1 million mark in first 4 days
The State Board of Elections reported that as of Sunday, the fourth day of in-person early voting for the 2024 general election, more than 1 million voters in North Carolina have cast their ballots, according to preliminary data.
The total number of ballots cast reached 1,008,123, with the voting methods broken down as follows:
- In-person early voting: 916,433
- Absentee (civilian): 77,831
- Absentee (overseas): 11,168
- Absentee (military): 2,691
This turnout accounts for approximately 13% of North Carolina’s nearly 7.8 million registered voters. Some of these figures may be slightly lower than the actual turnout due to delays in data uploads from county boards of elections to the State Board.
During the first three days of in-person early voting, nearly 863,000 voters participated, reflecting a 2.4% increase compared to 2020, when around 843,000 voters cast their ballots during the same period. This year’s increase in early voting turnout contrasts with the previous election cycle when many voters opted for absentee ballots due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Election Day for the 2024 election is scheduled for Nov. 5.
