Nell Smith, Flaming Lips collaborator and music prodigy, dead at 17! Online

Friends and family are mourning the loss of a young musical talent.

“It is with great pain that we have to say that our talented, unique, beautiful daughter was cruelly taken from us on Saturday night,” Nell's family said in an Oct. 7 tribute post on Instagram. I don't know what to do or say.”

Nell was due to release her first solo album in early 2025 after releasing an album of covers Nick Cave Title song by The Flaming Lips in 2021 Where the viaduct looms.

“He had so much to experience and give this world but we are grateful that he had so much experience in his 17 years,” his family continued. “He left an indelible mark on words and an irreparable chasm in our hearts. Hold your kids extra tight tonight and please leave us to work for now. We'll shout if you need us. Jude, Rachel, Jade and Ike X.”
