Mohammed Al Fayed accused of rape by multiple women – report
Business mogul Mohammed Al Fayed has been accused of raping multiple women in a BBC expose.
Al Fayed, who died last year, was accused of sexual harassment by more than 20 former employees, four of whom said he raped them.
In response, Harrods' current owners told the BBC they were “absolutely appalled” by the allegations and that his victim had failed. It added: “Today's Harrods is a very different company to the one owned and controlled by Al Fayed between 1985 and 2010, one that seeks to put the welfare of our staff at the heart of everything we do.” Harrods also apologized to the victims.
Al Fayed had previously faced allegations of sexual abuse while alive but had never been a rape victim and was interviewed under caution by the Metropolitan Police in October 2008 after allegations of sexual abuse against a 15-year-old schoolgirl. In the BBC revelation, the women spoke both on and off the record about how the mogul would abuse them in London, Paris, St Tropez and Abu Dhabi, often on business trips.
Al Fayed was an Egyptian billionaire who owned Harrods, the Ritz Paris and Fulham Football Club. Her son, Dodi, dated Princess Diana and died in the same car accident as her in 1997.
Al Fayed's name has returned to public life in the past few years after being portrayed Crown by Selim Da, for which Da was nominated for a BAFTA. His son Dodi is played by Khalid Abdalla.
