Dame Maggie Smith's Downton Abbey Co-star Hugh Bonneville and Harry Potter co-star Bonnie Wright paid tribute to the iconic actor after he died aged 89.
Bonneville, who played Dame Maggie in the ITV drama, remembered her as “a true legend of her generation” with a “sharp wit and powerful talent”.
Wright, who played Ginny Weasley in the Harry Potter film franchise, recalled her favorite scene with Smith “when we were all learning to dance for the Yule Ball” in the fourth movie, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
Her sons Chris Larkin and Toby Stephens announced Friday that the Oscar-winning actress died at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.
A statement from his children said: “He died peacefully in hospital on Friday morning, September 27. An intensely private person, he was with friends and family to the end.
“She is survived by two sons and five loving grandchildren who are devastated by the loss of their wonderful mother and grandmother.”
“We would like to take this opportunity to thank the wonderful staff at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital for their care and unwavering kindness during his final days.
“We thank you for all your messages and support and ask that you respect our privacy at this time.”
King Charles praised Maggie Smith's 'warmth and wit'
King Charles III praised the late Dame Maggie Smith for her “warmth and wit”, sharing a statement alongside a photo of the couple speaking at the Pride of Britain Awards at London's Grosvenor House Hotel in October 2016.
“My wife and I are deeply saddened to learn of the death of Dame Maggie Smith,” Charles said.
“As the curtain comes down on a national treasure, we join with everyone around the world to remember her many great performances and her warmth and intelligence that shined through both on and off the stage with great admiration and affection.”
