LOS ANGELES – The hottest baseball rivalry on the West Coast is back in the playoffs.
The National League West winning Los Angeles Dodgers host the San Diego Padres in Game 1 of the National League Division Series at Dodger Stadium on Saturday. It will be the third time in the past five seasons that they have faced division rivals.
With a wild-card sweep of the Atlanta Braves, the Padres will send Dylan Seaz to the mound while the NL's No. 1 seed will have Yoshinobu Yamamoto on the mound.
The Padres took the lead in the season series with an 8-5 win. But the last time these two met, it ended with the Dodgers celebrating another division title.
The Dodgers will try to rid themselves of some of the postseason demons they've been dealing with. They have lost six straight playoff games, which began when the Padres knocked them out of the divisional round in 2022.

Shohei Ohtani's first playoff at bat
Shohei Ohtani finally made his playoff debut and it ended with one out.
On the sixth pitch of his at-bat, he flied out to left field to start the Dodgers' half of the inning, already in a 3-0 hole.
Manny Machado home run in huge first inning for Padres
LOS ANGELES — Dodgers pitcher Yoshinobo Yamamoto and catcher Will Smith weren't connecting well, and that led to the Padres scoring in the top of the first.
After Luis Arraz hit an opposite-field single, he took second on a passed ball and then third on a wild pitch with Fernando Tatis Jr. at the plate. Tatis drew a walk, and Jurickson Profar hit a ground out to second to bring in Arrez's first run of the night.
In the following at-bat, Manny Machado hit a no-hitter to left field as San Diego quickly jumped out to a 3-0 lead.
Yamamoto ended up throwing 28 pitches in the first.
When is the Dodgers vs the Padres?
Scheduled for the first pitch in Game 1 8:38 pm ET at Dodger Stadium.

Clayton Kershaw is over for 2024
LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Dodgers need pitching depth in the 2024 postseason, and will be without a future Hall of Fame left-hander.
Manager Dave Roberts announced before Game 1 of the National League Division Series that Clayton Kershaw would not pitch again this season.
“Clayton has done everything he can to get this thing going and give himself a chance to be in the postseason,” Roberts said. “But where he's at now, physically, the legs, the toes, just aren't cooperating. It's actually getting worse. Yeah, that's Clayton for 2024.”
