Live-action hybrid 'Rugrats' movie in the works from Paramount and 'Pitch Perfect' director Jason Moore


Exclusive: Everyone's favorite adventurous kids are getting the big screen treatment like no other film or show before, sources tell Deadline. Rugrats, The classic 90s Nickelodeon cartoon is getting a live-action CGI hybrid feature adaptation with Jason Moore on board to direct. Saturday Night Live Star Mikey Day Streeter co-wrote the screenplay with Seidel.

Created by Arlene Klasky, Gábor Csupó and Paul Germain, the Nickelodeon series premiered in 1991 and soon became one of the most popular series of the decade for the network. The series follows a group of young children, Tommy, Chucky, Phil, and Lil, and their daily lives, usually involving life experiences that turn out to be big adventures for the four of them.

The show would go on to get a rebooted life in 1996 after three seasons and run into the 2000s. The popularity of the shows would lead the three animated movies to many accolades and gained new generations as new generations began to find older episodes on streaming as well.

Karen Rosenfelt is producing, as are Klasky and Cisupo.

As for Moore, the Tony-nominated director and producer of film, television and theater seems ideally suited to bring these characters to life. Moore's feature directorial debut, Pitch perfectAnna Kendrick, starring Rebel Wilson and Brittany Snow, was a critical and commercial success. Moore served as executive producer on both successful sequels. Moore also directed the sistersStarring Amy Poehler, Tina Fey and Maya Rudolph. Written by Paula Pell, the film was released by Universal Pictures.

Recently he gave instructions shotgun weddingStarring Jennifer Lopez and Josh Duhamel for Prime Video. Upcoming, Moore will direct two book adaptations: the gun Based on the acclaimed bestseller by Steven Rowley, as well as the novel by Emma Straub. This time tomorrow.

Moore is also the creative force behind some of Broadway's biggest hits.
