'Little Things Like That': Lionsgate sets release date for Cillian Murphy-starrer, drops official trailer


Lionsgate has dropped the official trailer and set a UK, Ireland and US release date Little things like thisStarring Oscar winner Cillian Murphy. Check out the trailer above and a new poster below.

Little things like this February marks the opening of the Berlin Film Festival, the first time an Irish film has received the honour. Emily Watson won the Silver Bear for Best Supporting Performance for her role. Lionsgate later acquired North America, UK and Ireland. It will be released first in the UK and Ireland on November 1, then in the US on November 8; The latter with roadside attractions.

Murphy, who also produces, plays devoted father Bill Furlong in the drama, based on Claire Keegan's best-selling novel of the same name. While working as a coal miner to support his family, Bill discovers disturbing secrets guarded by the local convent — and uncovers his own truths — forcing him to confront his past and the complicated silence of a small Irish town controlled by the Catholic Church.

Also starring Eileen Walsh, Michelle Fairley and Zara Devlin, the story takes place in the weeks leading up to Christmas 1985.

Little things like this Directed by Tim Millants (Peaky Blinders) and adapted by Enda Walsh (the hunger, disco pig) from Keegan's Booker Prize shortlisted novel.

Murphy previously told Deadline that he “fell in love with the book” whose story is “very specific” but with “a huge universality to it.”

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck's Artist Equity financed the film after Murphy met Damon while working on it. Oppenheimer (Read more about that encounter here). The producers are Murphy and his longtime collaborator and Big Things Films partner, Alan Moloney, along with Damon and Drew Vinton of Artists Equity; and Catherine Magee. Executive producers are Affleck, Michael Joe, Kevin Halloran and Niamh Fagan.
