Liam Payne 'passed out' in his hotel lobby moments before he died: 'Nightline' documentary
Liam Payne was seen “passing out” in the lobby of his Buenos Aires hotel shortly before he died, according to an eyewitness interviewed for a new “Nightline” documentary special.
Produced by ABC News Studios, the latest episode of their “Impact x Nightline” series aired Thursday and focused on the former One Direction singer's last days in Argentina before he fell from the balcony of his third-floor room at the Palermo Hotel in Casasur at 16.
“We had multiple encounters with Liam,” an unnamed guest told Us Weekly exclusively. “[There were] More than once, he descended into the lobby, causing chaos. [He] He is being taken to his room.”
The guest, reportedly a tourist, said he was “very disappointed” every time he saw the singer in the lobby.
“[Liam] “His laptop was being vandalized in the lobby,” the person told “Nightline.” “And then the last time he came back, he actually went into the hotel lobby.”
The eyewitness account tallies with previous reports that surfaced shortly after the singer's death, which claimed that he had smashed his laptop in the lobby of the Kasasur hotel and acted “uncertain” before he died.
Payne checked into Casasur's hotel after being kicked out of another hotel in Buenos Aires “because he was upset and disturbing other guests and was intoxicated.”
While it's unclear how Payne got back to his hotel room after passing out in the hotel lobby, a TMZ report published shortly after his death claimed the singer had to be escorted back to his suite.
Around 5pm local time, a hotel manager called emergency services to request help dealing with a guest they said had drunkenly consumed drugs and broken items in his room.
When first responders arrived, Payne had already fallen from his third-floor balcony. According to a preliminary autopsy report seen by multiple news outlets, the star died from “multiple injuries” that involved both internal and external bleeding.
The autopsy also revealed that he had a dangerous cocktail of drugs in his system, including “crystal,” a drug that produces strong hallucinations, and “pink cocaine,” also called tussy, which combines methamphetamine, ketamine, and ecstasy. The report states that Payne was “semi- or fully unconscious” when he fell.
Pictures of Payne's hotel room released after Payne's tragic death revealed a gruesome scene: a smashed TV, drug-related equipment and possible illegal substances.
On Wednesday, Buenos Aires police reportedly raided Penn's hotel and seized computer hard drives and footage from hotel cameras.
Law enforcement is reportedly trying to discover who supplied Payne with the illegal drugs found in his system, with particular attention being paid to a Dove soap box discovered in the singer's hotel room that officials believe could have been used to transport drugs to the star. .
An investigation into Payne's death is ongoing.
