In his mostly negative reviews, of diversity TV critic Aramide Tinubu wrote, “Ultimately, 'Kaos' fails to delight as the narrative gets bogged down by its own ambitions. Several storylines stand alone before crashing into each other near the season's anticlimactic finale. The gods rarely make any gasp-worthy use of their powers. or used in thrilling ways. More than anything, viewers are left to wonder why their petty squabbling should be of any concern to us, especially when so much is already being dealt with in the world.
The show spent four weeks on Netflix's top 10 chart after its release, but failed to garner significant viewers during that time. It peaked at number three on the English-language TV charts in its second week of availability, peaking at just 5.9 million views. Netflix defines a view as the total runtime divided by the total hours watched.
In a since-deleted Instagram post, Perrineau originally broke the news to fans that “Kaos” had been canceled. Read his post below.
“Well… this one hurts. I explain that I feel really hard, but I will try.
“When I started auditioning for this show, I knew it was special, mainly because Charlie Covell's scripts resonated with me in a way that most things didn't. I knew all these people, and I loved them all – every flaw, everything.
“For the first time in my life, I found myself truly proud. I am, of course, proud of everyone's work and the care they put into this project, because, let me tell you, they left everything on the floor. But I also found myself proud of myself, and that was something I struggled with.
“When I got cast, I couldn't believe anyone saw me. A girl who is not only a minority, but also a survivor of SA – and you're telling me that someone who thinks I can lead a show, have agency, have my own mission and be desirable enough to be a love interest is not just an amazing human being. But two? Did I deserve that? Everything that happened from that point on really changed my perspective.
“As the journey continued, I began to learn about the absolutely amazing talent involved – as if Charlie wasn't enough. Then I learned about our director, Georgie [Banks-Davies] and peace [Mapfumo]. It continues with our incredible cast; There are too many to mention, but I have to acknowledge three who have become lifelong friends, family and lifelines as we drift through Spain over the months: Misia [Butler]Navon [Rizwan] And Killian [Scott].
“Our beautiful HMU department, wardrobe department, Sisters, Netflix, our production team and our entire crew – every single person involved was a heavy hitter. And I was sitting there wondering how? why me And the answer I often got back: Why not you?
“Everyone was brilliant and unique. Every performance surprised and excited me. I can't believe I got to do this with all of you. We have created something strange, dark, hilarious, confused and downright sad – something completely human. It's a feeling I plan to take with me.
“Thanks for letting me be your Reedy. I had the time of my life.”
