Jon Stewart extends 'Daily Show' run through 2025
Jon Stewart isn't ready to give up his weekly The Daily Show the gig
Comedy Central announced Monday that Stewart has signed an extension that will keep him as a once-a-week host and full-time executive producer. The Daily Show Until December 2025. The news comes just nine months after Stewart inked a deal to return to the show, which he hosted from 1998-2015.
That initial deal had Stewart hosting the show once a week (usually Monday nights) through the presidential election. As Election Day approaches (and Stewart will host a live, hour-long special on Nov. 5), the extension will keep Stewart The Daily Show through the first year of the next president's term.
“Jon's sharp wit and sharp wit have made him one of the most important voices of political and cultural commentary today,” said Chris McCarthy, Paramount Global Co-CEO and President/CEO of Showtime and MTV Entertainment Studios. “Her ability to cut through the noise and provide clear-eyed insight is exactly what we need, so we're thrilled to have her lead the way. The Daily Show For one more year.”
“I've really enjoyed being back and working with an incredible team,” Stewart said in a statement The Daily Show and Comedy Central. I was really hoping they'd let me do it every Monday, but I'll have to suck it up.”
As has been the case since Stewart's return, the daily showIts regular correspondents – Ronnie Chiang, Jordan Klepper, Michael Costa and Desi Lidick – will rotate hosting duties from Tuesday to Thursday each week.
The Daily Show It won its second straight Emmy for best talk series in September, and ratings have improved substantially since Stewart's return in February. The show has averaged more than 1 million viewers over the past three quarters (including a week of Nielsen-measured delayed viewing, but excluding streaming), nearly doubling the total for the series with guest hosts in the final months of 2023.
