Joaquin Phoenix sparks marriage rumors after referring to Rooney Mara as his 'wife'
Congratulations to Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara.
Fans online think the “Joker” star is married to his longtime partner after he referred to her as his “wife” on Sunday's episode of the “Talk Easy with Sam Fragoso” podcast.
While sharing how he crafted his 2020 Oscars speech, the actor revealed that he came up with his stirring address “while talking to my mom and my wife.”
In the next episode, Phoenix mentions Mara by name, making it clear that she is the “wife” he was talking about.
“Rooney was like, 'That's what you should say!'” he shared.
Throughout his conversation with Fregoso, Phoenix refrained from clarifying the status of his marriage.
A representative for the actor did not immediately respond to Page Six's request for comment.
The couple met in 2012 while working together on Spike Jonze's film “Her”. However, they did not develop a relationship until they reunited on the set of “Mary Magdalene” a few years later.
They got engaged in 2019.
“She's the only girl I've ever seen on the Internet,” Phoenix said of Mara in a rare 2019 interview with Vanity Fair.
“We were just friends, email friends. I never did it. Didn't look at any girls online.”
In 2020, they welcomed their first child together — a son they named after the “Walk the Line” actor's late brother River Phoenix, who died of a drug overdose in 1993 at the age of 23.
Mara revealed that she and Joaquin are expecting their second child in February when she showed off her growing baby bump at the 74th Berlinale International Film Festival in Berlin, Germany.
