Hotel guest heard 'loud, violent screams' coming from Liam Payne's room before singer's death: report


According to a new report, a guest staying at the Palermo Hotel in Casasu heard a “really loud, violent scream” coming from Liam Payne's room before the One Direction singer's death.

Payne died on Wednesday at the age of 31, when he fell three stories from the balcony of his hotel room. Buenos Aires, Argentina.

In an interview with People magazine, another guest staying at the same hotel recalled hearing “a lot of noises” in Penn's room that he described as sounds like “heavy lifting” or “bending”.

“I thought it was construction. I thought they were working on the room,” said the hotel patron.

The guest recalled seeing hotel staff members “walk into” Penn's room and then hearing “more commotion” at about 4:30 p.m.

A few minutes after the commotion in the room started again, the guest recalled “I heard a really loud, violent scream.”

The patrons then “heard sirens” but were “not concerned until they got to the elevator.” The guest told the outlet that they then saw “the whole street full of police cars.”

Authorities confirmed Payne died at the hotel shortly after 5 p.m. An employee called the emergency line to seek help for a guest who was “under the influence of drugs and alcohol who destroyed some objects in the room.”

“We need to send somebody urgently because, well, I don't know if the guest's life is in danger,” the employee said in the 911 call, via Reuters. “He has a room with a balcony. And, we are a little afraid that he will do something that will put his life in danger.”

Upon arrival, officers discovered that “Payne had already fallen from the balcony of his home and was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of the severity of his injuries.”

According to the National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor's Office No. 16, a preliminary autopsy tentatively led by Marcelo Roma revealed that Payne died of “polytrauma” and “an internal and external hemorrhage.”

According to the report, the circumstances surrounding his death are still being investigated as a “suspicious” death, although it appears that Payne was alone at the time of the fall and that the UK resident was “going through some form of substance abuse outbreak”.

Buenos Aires police said they found Penn's hotel room in “complete disarray” with “various things broken.” According to The Associated Press, packs of clonazepam (commonly sold under the brand name Klonopin and acting as a central nervous system depressant), energy supplements and other over-the-counter medications were found scattered among his belongings.

Forensic teams also reported that a whiskey bottle, lighter and cellphone were recovered from the courtyard where Penn's body was found.

His body was then shifted to the forensic morgue, where an autopsy was conducted between 9:45 and 11:05 pm The medical examiner requested histopathological, biochemical and toxicological tests, which are pending.

Coroners reported finding 25 injuries “consistent with a fall from a height,” according to the autopsy. They also noted that “craniocerebral lesions were sufficient to cause death, while internal and external hemorrhages in the skull, thorax, abdomen, and extremities contributed to the process of death.”

After an investigation of Payne's hand, no defensive injuries were confirmed. Also, given the position in which the body fell and the injuries sustained from the fall, the report states that “it is presumed that Paine did not assume a reflexive position to protect himself and that he may have passed out in a semi-conscious state. – or completely unconscious.”

The group gained worldwide fame for its hit songs, including “What Makes You Beautiful,” “Story of My Life” and “Best Song Ever.” They have released five chart-topping albums in five years of competition “The X Factor” and embarked on four world tours.

Payne was the father of a son, Bear, 7, whom he shared with an ex-girlfriend Cheryl Cole.

Since Penn's death, his family members, fellow One Direction bandmates, Cole and many other celebrities have paid tribute to the late singer.
