During the rally, Trump mistakenly introduced the reggaeton star as a 'hot' woman

Donald Trump misgendered reggaeton star Nicky Jam at a campaign rally in Las Vegas on Friday, introducing the male singer as a “hot” woman. The former president then faced his mistake when the singer joined him on stage.

“Do you know Nicky? She's hot!” The former president told the crowd after the musician's endorsement of the GOP presidential ticket. Jam, wearing a MAGA hat, then appeared on stage, prompting the Republican nominee to obliquely address his mistake.

“Oh look! come here I'm glad he came,” Trump said.

Jam, who was born in Massachusetts but moved to Puerto Rico as a child, didn't mind the former president's slip-up, saying, “Where I'm from, they don't meet the president. So I'm lucky,” he told the rally attendees before addressing Trump: “We need you. We want you back, right? We want you to be president.”

After the rally, Jam joked about Trump's error, posting a photo on Instagram with the caption, “Nikki Jam la potra la bichota” (which roughly translates to, “Nikki Jam the hot woman the female boss”) along with 22 crying-laughing emojis.

The musician's endorsement, however, led to backlash. Mexican rock band Mana pulled their collaboration with The Jam, “De Pais a Cabeza,” from the Internet on Sunday.

“Mana does not work with racists,” read a statement from the band on Instagram

“For the past 30 years, Mana has supported and defended the rights of Latinos around the world,” the post continued in Spanish. “There is no business or promotion more valuable than the dignity of our people.

Kamala Harris' campaign also took to social media after the campaign event, choosing to troll her political opponent for her “hot” woman comments by posting a clip of the former president at his rally at X.

Others on the social media app joined in, poking fun at Trump's apparent lack of knowledge about Latin music and culture. “Happy Hispanic Heritage Month!” one user wrote alongside a screenshot of the former president's infamous 2016 Cinco de Mayo post. Another ABC anchor disputed an already-popular meme of David Muir scrutinizing the former president during his Sept. 10 presidential debate against Harris, captioning the photo “Mr. President, Nicki Jam is not a 'she' she's actually a man.”

“Latin music superstars,” as Trump described them, joined the likes of Kid Rock, Billy Ray Cyrus and Jason Aldean in supporting the former president. Harris, meanwhile, recently received a veritable choir's worth of musician endorsements from Taylor Swift following this past week's controversy.
