Dodgers release status for Game 3 of WS

New York – Crisis averted for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

A day after superstar Shohei Ohtani suffered a partially dislocated shoulder in Game 2 of the World Series on Saturday, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told ESPN that Ohtani “is in a great place and will play in Game 3 tomorrow.”

After Saturday night's game, Roberts was confident Ohtani had avoided serious injury, but the Dodgers designated hitter had to undergo more tests to confirm.

“The power was great. The range of motion is good. So we're excited,” Roberts said after the Dodgers' 4-2 win.

Ohtani hit his left shoulder while trying to steal in the seventh inning, sliding into second base and leaving the field with a trainer after being held steady on the ground.

“The whole stadium was silent,” Dodgers outfielder Teoscar Hernandez said.

The Dodgers lead the World Series 2-0 and Games 3, 4 and 5 (if necessary) are set for Monday through Wednesday at Yankee Stadium in New York.

Signed last winter for $700 million, Ohtani became the first player in history to hit 50 home runs and 50 steals in a season and will likely be the consensus National League MVP. The 30-year-old had three homers, 10 RBIs and an .863 OPS in his first career postseason in 13 games during Los Angeles' playoff run.

He went 1 for 8 in the first two games of the World Series against the Yankees.
