Diddy's mother reacts to rapper's sex trafficking arrest: 'Devastated and deeply saddened by allegations'
Shawn “Diddy” Combs' mother, Janice Combs, has broken her silence after her son was arrested for sex trafficking and racketeering.
In a statement shared by her lawyer Natalie G. Figures on Sunday, Janice said the 54-year-old rapper is innocent of sexual assault allegations and is not a “monster.”
“I come to you today as a mother who is devastated and deeply saddened by the allegations against my son, Sean Combs. It is heartbreaking to see my son prosecuted not for the truth, but for a narrative made of lies,” Janice said.
“My son is not the monster they paint him to be, and he deserves a chance to speak for himself. I can only pray that I live to see him speak his truth and be vindicated,” she continued.
Janice explained that Diddy — who has been denied bail twice since his Sept. 16 arrest while behind bars in Brooklyn — isn't “perfect” and noted that he's “made mistakes in his past.”
“My son may not be completely truthful about some things, like denying he was ever violent with an ex-girlfriend when hotel surveillance shows otherwise,” she said, referring to 2016 footage released earlier this year showing DD physically assaulting then-girlfriend Casey Ventura at a hotel. insult
Before the video surfaced, DD denied Ventura's sexual assault allegations and settled a lawsuit against him within a day. He later apologized for his behavior after the video was leaked, although he did not acknowledge Ventura, 38, by name.
Janice's statement continued, “Sometimes, the truth and a lie become so closely intertwined that it becomes terrifying to admit a part of the story, especially when that truth is out of the ordinary or too complicated to believe. That's why I believe my son's civil The legal team ultimately chose to settle the ex-girlfriend's case, which resulted in the federal government using the decision as an admission of guilt against my son.”
“Not being completely candid about one thing does not mean that my son is guilty of the despicable allegations and serious allegations made against him,” Janice continued. “Many people who were wrongfully convicted and later exonerated were stripped of their freedom not because they were guilty of the crime they were accused of, but because they fit the image of what society considers 'good people.' don't say “History has shown us how individuals can be wrongly convicted because of their past actions or mistakes.”
“It's really painful that the world turns against my son so quickly and easily against lies and misconceptions, without ever hearing his side or giving him a chance to present his side,” she added.
Janice blasted Diddy's accusers for being “motivated” by “financial gain, not justice”. He accused the federal government of “using this lie to prosecute my son.”
“This injustice was unbearable for our family,” Janice said. “The worst part of this ordeal is that my dear son is being stripped of his dignity, not for what he did, but for what people choose to believe about him.”
DD is being charged with sex trafficking, racketeering and transportation for involvement in prostitution.
In a bombshell indictment unsealed last month, prosecutors claimed the famed music producer carried out a “decades-long pattern of physical and sexual violence against multiple victims.”
Diddy allegedly arranged elaborate, drug-fueled “freak off” sex sessions — sometimes lasting several days — in which he masturbated and forced women to have sex with male prostitutes while secretly filming them, prosecutors alleged.
The “Coming Home” rapper has been accused of sexually abusing more than 100 people, including a 9-year-old.
DD has pleaded not guilty to all charges. His next court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday.
His lawyer insists his client is innocent.
“Mr. Combs vehemently and patently denies any false and defamatory claims that he sexually assaulted anyone, including minors,” Diddy's attorney said in a statement.
“He looks forward to proving his innocence and proving himself in court if and when demanded and served, where facts will be established based on evidence, not speculation.”
