DeMeco Ryans on Nico Collins: He's the best receiver in the league, a chance for someone to step up

Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans gave a big compliment to wide receiver Nico Collins when talking about his trip to injured reserve.

Collins injured his hamstring in last Sunday's win over the Bills and went on the list Wednesday. The move made the Texans the league leader in receiving yards and the Ryans went even further while identifying Collins as the league's top wideout.

Losing a player like that leaves a big hole in the offense, and Ryans wondered “who's going to make those plays” in his Wednesday press conference.

“Unfortunate that we don't have Nico, great player, Best receiver in the league,” Ryans said, via KPRC's Aaron Wilson. “He will be back at some point this season. A chance for other guys to step up and make the most of their opportunities, that's what the league is all about. A lot of guys that have made a name for themselves and made some big plays in the league when other guys have been out, so we're looking for the same thing whoever it is.”

Stefon Diggs, Tank Dell, Robert Woods, John Mechie and Xavier Hutchinson are the remaining receivers on the 53-man roster, and it will likely end up being a group effort to fill the production the team needs if Collins isn't available.
