Delta has unveiled a sleek new cabin design CNN
Delta Air Lines is debuting a new look this fall, with sleek new cabin interiors on its narrowbody Boeing 757 aircraft that will eventually be implemented across the carrier's fleet.
The new navy and dark gray color palette, a departure from Delta's bright blue scheme, is in line with interior trends. Subtle red accents and lighting that “promotes relaxation” are part of the design overhaul, which comes just before Delta's centennial.
“As we embark on our next century of flying, this refreshed cabin interior reflects the evolving tastes and expectations of our customers while combining utility with beauty to create an environment that feels fresh, sophisticated and timeless,” said Mauricio Vice President of Customer. Paris Experience Design, in a news release.
The new cabins will debut on Boeing 757s later this fall on domestic and short-haul international routes and then appear on widebody Airbus A350s in early 2025.
While the interior is getting a complete refresh, there will be “no changes to the seat configuration, size or space between the seats,” a Delta spokesperson said in response to a question about those aspects of the cabin design.
Premium Delta One seating will feature breathable, wool-and-nylon blend fabric upholstery, designed to better regulate temperature, and engineered leather headrests.
Memory foam cushions are part of Delta's Premium Select and First Class as well as economy seat offerings on widebody aircraft. The main cabin seats feature engineered leather with red accents.
The new lighting is designed to create a “calm onboard environment” that helps customers adjust to the time zone
“For boarding, we focused on the 'moment of recession' — warm and inviting lighting that makes the cabin look spacious and open. During the meal, we line up colors that make it feel like you're at a candlelit dinner — making the meal more natural and inviting,” Paris said.
“As the light fades for sleep, we borrow from the sunset and gradually remove the blue light while bringing in warm amber tones that are reminiscent of sunset glow. When it's time to wake up, the cabin gradually brightens with morning and daylight.”
Every aircraft in the fleet will eventually feature the new cabin design, Delta said.
“Our goal is to create a single experience across our diverse fleet, not just a unique subset,” the airline said
