College football scores, games, updates: Kentucky stuns Ole Miss in Oxford

The biggest game of the season (so far) is upon us.

No. 4 Georgia visits Alabama in the first best-of-five matchup of the season on Saturday night. It's the last of four ranked matchups during a loaded Week 5 slate.

The biggest results of the day, however, could happen early on Saturday. Kentucky went up against No. 6 Ole Miss in Oxford and stunned the Rebels 20-17, ending with a nailed field goal that would have tied it.

Here are the biggest games of the day. Follow along as we break down all the action below.

Time: 3:30 pm | TV: Peacock Line: Notre Dame -6 | Total: 45.5

The Cardinals got a statement win at home against the Irish a season ago. And it's fair to wonder if Louisville is better this season than in 2023. Former Oregon and Texas Tech QB Tyler Shoff has been very good so far this season, completing 68% of his passes for eight touchdowns and no interceptions. Notre Dame is looking to rely on Riley Leonard through the air to complement a dominant run game through four games despite injuries along the offensive line.

Time: 7:30 PM | TV: NBC Line: Penn State -18 | Total: 47.5

The Illini knocked off previously undefeated Nebraska in overtime in Week 4, marking the third time since 1951 that Illinois had won its first four games. A big reason for that is the improved play of former Ole Miss QB Luke Altmaier. Can he keep it up against Penn State on the road? Opposing QBs are averaging just 144 yards per game against the Nittany Lions.

Time: 7:30 PM | TV: ABC | Line: Georgia -1.5 | Total: 48.5

This matchup of perennial playoff teams features two Heisman contenders at quarterback. No QB accounted for more TDs per game than Alabama's Jalen Milroe, and Carson Beck spent much of the offseason as the favorite for the award. Beck's 2024 season hasn't lived up to the Heisman hype yet, but it wouldn't be the least bit surprising if Beck had a big game.

Time: 10 pm TV: FS1 | Line: Boise State -7.5 | Total: 64.5

Washington State is atop the AP Top 25 after a 4-0 start that includes wins over Texas Tech and Washington, and QB John Matter is slinging it. But the Cougars defense is allowing nearly five yards per carry — an impressive statistic for Boise State RB Ashton Jeanty, who leads the nation with an average of 10.5 yards a carry. There's a reason he's the non-QB with the best Heisman odds (+2000) at BetMGM.

We have a development in Ann Arbor. The Gophers scored early in the fourth quarter to cut it to a two-touchdown deficit, then Koi Perich did some serious work with a 60-yard punt return. Minnesota scored soon after to make it a one score game.

  • K-State interception!

  • Ole Miss ties it up

The Rebels knotted things at 10-10 with their opening possession of the second half.

The Wildcats' game plan is clear by now: run, run, run some more. Will a possession game be enough to topple Ole Miss in Oxford, or will they have to go to the air to stay in it?

  • Kansas State touchdown!

After a quick three-and-out by OK State, Kansas State took over and DJ Giddens ran through the OSU defense for a 66-yard touchdown.

It was 153 rushing yards for Giddens just two minutes into the second quarter and the Wildcats led 28-13.

  • We're back in the second half with Ole Miss-Kentucky and OK State-Kansas State. The Rebels and Cowboys will start with the ball in their respective games.
