Childish Gambino cancels 2024 tour dates after Donald Glover is hospitalized: 'I have surgery scheduled and need time to heal'
Donald Glover has canceled the remainder of his Childish Gambino concert tour in North America and Europe, saying he has surgery scheduled and needs to “take time off to heal.”
The news comes after Glover previously postponed the remaining North American dates of the tour – billed as the “final” Childish Gambino tour, as Glover plans to retire the moniker.
“After my show in New Orleans, I went to the hospital in Houston to confirm an illness that had become apparent. After being evaluated, it became clear that I would not be performing that night, and after further testing, I was left in the requested time frame. Can't make the US tour. I have surgery scheduled and need time to heal,” Glover wrote on X.
He added, “My road to recovery is something I will have to take seriously. With that said, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the remainder of the North American tour and the UK and European dates. Tickets will be refunded at the time of purchase. I offer this show to fans. Want nothing more than to bring and perform. Until then, thanks for the love, privacy and support.”
Glover did not disclose the reason for his hospitalization or the details of his planned surgery. While he specifically canceled tour dates in North America, the UK and the rest of Europe, he did not specify whether his concerts in New Zealand and Australia in January and February 2025 would be affected.
The “New World” tour was part of the self-proclaimed “final” project of Glover's Childish Gambino persona, which includes his latest album, “Bando Stone and the New World,” an upcoming film of the same name, and a reissue of the Pandemic-era “3.15.2020 ” album (retitled “Atavista”).
