Childish Gambino canceled tour to recover from surgery
Childish Gambino is officially canceling his New World Tour, which he paused last month “to focus on [his] physical health.” In a new post today, on X, the musician shared, “After my show in New Orleans, I went to the hospital in Houston to confirm an illness that had become apparent.” He continued, “After evaluation, it's clear. It turned out that I would not be performing that night, and upon further examination, I would not be able to make the rest of the US tour within the time requested. As of now I have surgery scheduled and need time to heal.”
Childish Gambino will issue refunds for incomplete shows. The musician recently performed at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans on September 7, closing out North American shows that were scheduled to take place between September 8 and October 2. He was scheduled to begin the European leg of his tour on October 31 and stay on the continent until December 5. Pitchfork has reached out to Childish Gambino's representatives regarding the status of the January and February 2025 concerts in Oceania.
Childish Gambino:
After my show in New Orleans, I went to the hospital in Houston to confirm an illness that had become apparent. After evaluation, it became clear that I would not be performing that night, and after further testing, I would not be able to make the rest of the US tour within the requested time frame. As of now I have surgery scheduled and need time to heal.
My road to recovery is something I have to deal with seriously. With that said, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the remainder of the North American tour and the UK and European dates. Tickets will be refunded at the time of purchase.
I want nothing more than to bring this show to the fans and perform. Until then, thanks for the love, privacy and support.
