Cheri Hines reveals how she got through 'crazy' times in her marriage, plans to write book after RFK Jr.'s sexting scandal with NY Mag's Olivia Nuzzi
Robert F. Kennedy Jr's actress wife Cheryl Hines has revealed her strategy for getting through “crazy” times in the marriage and insisted she is “feeling good” in her first interview weeks after her husband became romantically involved with political journalist Olivia Nuzzi.
Hines also said she felt “a lot of emotion with the rumors” but did not directly address swirling reports that her husband, 70, and the 31-year-old New York magazine writer engaged in a “sexting” trust in The Groundlings. The 50th anniversary event is Saturday.
The “Curb Your Enthusiasm” star revealed plans to write a book in two separate interviews at the event as she deals with her marriage and RFK's rising political profile.
“There has to be a connection,” Hines, 59, told Us Weekly in Los Angeles.
“There's a connection that you look at your husband or your partner and look at all the crazy things that are happening around you, or you look and you check in and it's like, 'Okay. It's going to be okay. We're going to get through this moment.'
“And, you know, sometimes it's fun and you can lean in and say, 'This is crazy,' and have a moment together and then hold your head up and go on to the next thing.”
Hines also told the publication that he has recently been “having a lot of fun with it [her] Family,” and “It would be hard if I had a boring family.”
“And I think just trying to embrace the unknown and instead of fighting against it, trying to embrace it and just try to say yes to whatever comes your way,” said Hines, who, like Kennedy, has children from past marriages.
“Just to let it flow and find the little moments and not take anything too seriously. Although I find myself in a very serious situation!”
The comments come as his ties to the Kennedy clan come under scrutiny after he was accused of having a digital relationship with Nuzzi, who profiled the then-independent candidate last November.
Nuzzi allegedly began sexting Kennedy after the story, including allegedly sending him “demure nudes.” The pair even “had incredible sex on FaceTime,” a source told Page Six.
Kennedy denied the fling with Nuzzi, with his camp saying the two had only seen each other once during an interview for a New York magazine piece.
When asked how he was doing, Hines said during Saturday's Groundlings event, “Listen, I, I feel good,” according to People.
He also said that he is counting the days until the end of the presidential election.
“The end is near,” he said, to the people. “And I feel so cool about it. 17 days, actually. But yeah, let's say it's 16. Every day, I Google it. You'd think I'd remember from the day before. Every day, the countdown.”
After dropping out of the race for the White House, Kennedy endorsed former President Donald Trump against Vice President Kamala Harris.
When he first met Kennedy more than a decade ago, he claimed he had no interest in politics.
“I was like, 'Great. This is going to be great!' And then life gives you a left turn, a right turn, however it turns out,” he told the publication.
“People have a lot of feelings about politics, especially in Hollywood, and I don't know. I mean, so far I think it's fine,” he added. “I'm fine having conversations like that with people and, to me, that doesn't define anyone.
Hines also said she was writing a book while addressing how the couple, who have been married since 2014, handle the “rumors.”
“A lot of emotion about rumors! But, it will all be in my book,” Hines said. “I'm writing a book. I'm taking notes – serious notes!
Kennedy and Hines were spotted still wearing their wedding rings and were seen together at an Al Smith dinner in New York City last week.
Meanwhile, Nuzzi is on leave from New York Mag and in a legal battle with her ex-fiancé, Politico journalist Ryan Liza.
Lizza and Nuzzi accuse each other after filing a no-contact order against Lizza, who is on leave from work amid personal turmoil.
