Ben Affleck gets honest about divorce in first comments after Jennifer Lopez split
Jennifer Lopez is not looking for love.
The “Let's Get Loud” singer spoke about being single while addressing her and Ben Affleck's divorce.
Lopez, 55, explained to Interview magazine on Wednesday why she is “excited” to be on her own two years after she and the actor, 52, tied the knot.
“Everything I've done in the last 25, 30 years, in these different challenging situations, what can I do when I'm flying solo … if I'm free?” she asked.
While admitting to Nicki Glasser that “New Territory” is “lonely, unfamiliar, scary,” “sad” and “desperate,” the Grammy nominee insisted that “being in a relationship doesn't define her.”
“When you sit in that feeling and go, 'These things aren't going to kill me,' it's like, 'Actually, I'm capable of joy and happiness on my own,'” she noted.
“I can't find happiness in other people,” he continued. “I must be happy within myself.”
Lopez admits she's a “romantic” who “loves”[s] Being in a relationship and wanting to[s] Growing old with someone.”
However, she said, “We think, 'I have to be whole and happy.' And you don't.”
The actress was married to Ozani Noah, Chris Judd and Marc Anthony before eloping with Affleck in Las Vegas in July 2022.
She “lovingly” calls her past self a “dumb bitch” and a “ma-car” for wanting a mate.
Lopez now believes that her relationship with herself is “the most important thing,” adding, “I think we'll drift apart. [that] Sometimes, when you get involved with other people.”
When divisive rumors began circulating in May that her romance with the Oscar winner was on the rocks, Lopez kept quiet — as well as scolding a reporter for asking about it.
The “Gigley” co-stars made headlines for spending her birthday and their anniversary before Lopez filed for divorce in August.
She has since been spotted showing PDA with Affleck while out with their blended family, but the pair are said to still be “moving forward” with their divorce.
