Bedford police say the 8-year-old drove himself toward Target, hitting the mailbox
BEDFORD, Ohio (WOIO) – An 8-year-old girl drove to a Bainbridge Target within 24 minutes of her home, according to a Bedford Police report.
According to a police report, Bedford police were dispatched to a home on Greencroft Road around 9 a.m. for a report of a missing child and a missing vehicle.
Officers requested a “be on the lookout” notice with a description of both the young woman and the SUV.
Next-door neighbors gave family members and officers ring doorbell camera footage showing the girl getting into a car and driving alone to where the family reported last seeing her.
Bedford Heights later advised they received a call about a small child traveling east on Rockside Road in a vehicle matching the description of the missing SUV.
Officers were unable to locate the girl or the vehicle at the time, however, surveillance cameras were able to locate the SUV traveling earlier on Pettibone Road.
Bainbridge Police advised Bedford Police that officers located the vehicle at a Target in Bainbridge.
Officers found the girl inside the store and her family later picked her up.
According to a release, the young woman also told officers she hit a mailbox during her trip.
