Andrew Garfield details 'hot' love scene with Florence Pugh
Being in character is a must for every actor, but Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh take it to another level.
The “We Live in Time” star opened up during a Friday interview with 92NY's Josh Horowitz about filming a “very intimate, emotional sex scene” with her co-star Pugh.
Garfield and Pugh star as unlikely paramour Tobias and Almut in the John Crowley-directed romantic drama, which chronicles the couple's decades-long romance after a chance encounter.
Garfield said that the first photo of her sex scene with Pugh, who she described as “very confident in her body and her sexuality”, took on a life of its own.
“The scene became emotional, as we choreographed it,” Garfield recalled Horowitz saying, according to footage shared on social media. “And we go in as it was and we don't hear the 'cut' and we go a little further than that because it feels safe.”

And while the actors were comfortable going through with the scene, Garfield said they were later confused by input from their camera operator and director of photography Stuart Bentley.
“At a certain point, we were both, I think, we were both telepathically telling each other, this definitely feels like it's going to take longer,” Garfield said.
The Oscar-nominated actor said he then wanted to see Bentley and the film's boom operator in the corner of the room, averting their eyes from intimate scenes. “Stewart's camera is next to him, and he's turned into a wall,” Garfield said.
How Andrew Garfield, Florence Pugh Bond Through 'Incredibly Intimate' Scenes
Garfield and Pugh opened up about the vulnerability required for their “We Live in Time” roles in an interview with Esquire published Wednesday.
“We had to do the most intimate things that I think people have to do,” Garfield told the magazine, adding that Pugh “had to be on all fours, then on the toilet, naked.” “And we have to have my mouth where my mouth is, my hands where my hands are, and the sex scenes have to be incredibly intimate.”

Pugh reflected that the experience created a unique bond between the actors.
“We really felt bound by each other, and I felt like my ability was respected and his ability was given back,” says Pugh, who hopes to collaborate with Garfield on another project. “When we finished the job, we both thought, what an amazing partnership we've made and what an amazing thing to know that we'll do it again.”
“We Live in Time” will hit theaters on October 11
