NFL news, injury updates: Lions' Aidan Hutchinson has surgery; Jaguars, Seahawks make first trade of 2024 regular season

The NFL Week 6 injury report headlines a few young stars who went down Sunday and could have a big impact in the NFL's toughest division.

For the first time since the current division format was adopted in 2002, four teams from the same division had at least four wins over six weeks. That division is the NFC North, home to the Detroit Lions, who are dealing with a major blow after their 47-9 blowout win over the Cowboys. Speaking of those Cowboys, all is not well in Dallas — at least when the team is playing at home, where they're giving up nearly 40 points per game.

Here's a look at some of the NFL's top stories coming out of Week 6.

The Lions' pass-rushing specialist leads the NFL in sacks with 6.5, but was carted off the field Sunday in Dallas with what was confirmed to be a broken tibia. He had surgery in Dallas and is expected to miss the remainder of the 2024 season, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Hutchinson had 11.5 sacks in 2023 and made his first Pro Bowl last season.

If you look at the Dallas Cowboys' road results this year, you'll find a 3-0 team that, while they have some things to clean up, have managed to pull off several close wins and even defeats. 4-2 Steelers at Pittsburgh. But at home, the Cowboys have rarely been competitive, and for all but two quarters, have been completely stymied on home turf. The Cowboys have given up 119 points — 39.7 points per game — at home in three games this season.

After the worst home loss of the Jerry Jones era — coincidentally on his 82nd birthday — Jones said he wasn't considering a coaching change, even as questions swirled about Mike McCarthy. The Cowboys are off in Week 7, and will play their next two games on the road.

One of the NFL's most exciting rookies stumbled and had to be sidelined during the Arizona Cardinals' 34-13 loss to the Green Bay Packers. Harrison didn't catch a pass when he was sidelined with the injury, but he has four touchdown receptions and 279 receiving yards in the first six games of his rookie season.

Tagovailoa could return to practice on Oct. 23 after his IR stint ends, but McDaniel said a return this week is unlikely.

“As far as the timeline goes, I know he's not playing this week,” McDaniel said at a news conference. “I hope to see him playing football in 2024, but as it stands, we'll let the process continue.”
