Jojo Siwa opens up about the 'cruel' backlash she received for the controversial magazine cover
Jojo Siwa is coming clean about the “cruel” backlash she faced for posing with a fake bulge for a recent magazine cover.
While appearing last week “Talk Good Luck” Podcast Hosted by Haley Welch, known as the viral “Hawk Tua Girl”, the singer and dancer said it was “really hard” to be criticized for the viral photo shoot, In which he sports a bedazzled Fox Sport
“It's brutal,” she told Welch. “It's really hard. People are just babies.”
In a September photoshoot for Ladygan, Siwa posed in a strapless, bejeweled top featuring nipples and mock abs, which she paired with gold combat boots.
The “Dance Moms” alum explained her decision to don the controversial accessory.
“Rock's boom is — we were just giving it a little spice, a little gender-bend, a little, be whatever you want to be,” Siwa said. “It was just spicing myself up a little.”
Siwa then compared her sparkly bulge look to Harry Styles' controversial Vogue cover in 2020, where she wore several traditionally feminine outfits, including skirts and dresses.
“It's like back in the day when Harry Styles wore a dress,” Siwa noted. “Of course, wearing a bulge is a little different than wearing a dress.”
Welch replied, “You're stuck. I think you should do more, though.”
Siwa explains that he likes to push boundaries and dabble with his mates in “danger zones”.
“One thing about me is that I like to be for people who are different, for people who don't fit in and for people who aren't afraid to take risks,” Siwa said. “I feel like being that person, I have to go into the risk zone as much as possible. I need to explore the risk zone to see what it's like.”
Last month, the “Karma” singer turned heads with another risque fashion look at Christian Cowan's New York Fashion Week show.
Siwa hit the runway show on September 8 in a giant ball covered in black fur. She paired the leg-baring dress with knee-high furry green boots and coordinating green makeup.
The former Nickelodeon star told E! News that she and her team have saved every outfit she's worn in public since she was 9 years old.
“Anything I've worn publicly, like a music video, a performance, we have an archive,” Siwa told the outlet. “So I saved it all, from the time I was 9 – what I wore on TV. It's way too many things. We have to clean it up one day.”
