Cowboys vs. Lions DE injured ankle

ARLINGTON, Texas – Detroit Lions star pass rusher Aidan Hutchinson left the field in the second half against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday with a serious leg injury.

The Lions came out of the half and added another score to their big halftime run, leading the Cowboys 34-6. With the game out of reach, Hutchinson gets a sack on Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, but his leg gets awkwardly tangled and Hutchinson appears to be in immediate pain.

As the coaches turned to Hutchinson, every Lions player left the sideline to be by Hutchinson's side. Jared Goff approached Hutchinson, who was lying on the ground, while Sam LaPorta walked off the field with a towel over his head. And Alex Anzalone pulled Hutchinson close before he got on a medical cart.

Hutchinson, the No. 2 pick in the 2022 draft, was having a breakout season and is the heart of a Lions defense that ranked fourth in the NFL in rushing yards entering the game. He had at least one sack in each of the Lions' first three games and 4½ in a Week 2 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and led the NFL with 23 pressures, according to Pro Football Reference.

The broadcast quickly went to commercial and when they returned, Fox Sports play-by-play man Kevin Burkhardt said they weren't going to show the replay because it was too graphic.

The Lions already lost a defensive end to a season-ending injury — Marcus Davenport tore his triceps in a Week 3 win over the Arizona Cardinals — and used Josh Paschal and Isaac Ukou as defensive ends after Hutchinson's injury.

Defensive tackle Kyle Peko also left the game in the first half with a pectoral injury and sat out the game.

It's exactly the kind of game you dread when your team is big, and when nothing is official, you have to assume the worst for Hutchinson, whose leg appeared to bend in a very unnatural way on the play.
