Scottish DJ Jackmaster has died aged 38 after suffering a head injury

Jack Revill, the Scottish DJ known as Jackmaster, has died aged 38.

Reville died Saturday morning in Ibiza, Spain “of complications arising from an accidental head injury,” his family announced in an Instagram statement.

“His family – Kate, Sean and Johnny – are completely heartbroken,” the statement said. “While deeply touched by the overwhelming support from friends, colleagues and fans, the family requests privacy as they navigate the immeasurable grief of this devastating loss.”

“Jack's passion for music and his relentless drive to push creative boundaries through his work at Number Label and Rubadub Records in Glasgow, along with the discovery of countless innovative artists, have made him a beloved and pioneering figure in the electronic music community, both front and back. scene,” the message continued.

“His talent for blending genres and delivering electrifying DJ sets and productions has earned him the respect and admiration of peers and fans around the world,” the family said, noting that Reville's “legacy will continue to inspire, and his impact on the world of dance music will remain indelible.”

Reville was born on January 11, 1986 in Glasgow, Scotland. He worked in a record store as a teenager and aspired to become a professional DJ.

“I've never worked for the money,” he said in a 2012 interview with Resident Advisor. “It was always like, you'd take a record an hour, so importing from Detroit or Chicago or New York was £7.50, which I guess you could say was a pretty good wage.”

He added, “I didn't have to buy any more records. So that was an obvious advantage.”

Reveal started DJing when he was 17 years old. He adopted the stage name Jackmaster in reference to the term popular in the Chicago house scene in the 1980s.

As his career began to grow, Revill was able to quit his job at a record store to become a professional DJ.

“That kind of made me a DJ who gigs every Friday and every Saturday, and it's been that way ever since,” he told Billboard in 2017.

Reveal has performed at many famous clubs and festivals. He even received a BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix Residency in 2014, after being named in the Breakthrough DJ Award at DJ Mag's Best of British Awards in 2010.

The late star co-founded his own record label, Numbers.

In 2018, Reveal was accused of sexual assault while at GHB at the Love Saves the Day festival in Bristol, UK.

He later apologized in a statement and said he had made “significant changes to address the destructive parts” of his lifestyle over “an extended period of time”.

In response, Reveille's victims issued a statement that read, “The position of the festival venue and its staff who were affected by Jack's behavior on the night is that Jack has directly apologized to them, that he has taken time to work on himself and has undertaken to never. Repeat this behavior to someone else in the future. He has the support of our staff and the festival to work towards these goals and his own future happiness.”

Reville last posted an Instagram from his gig at Club Hï Ibiza on September 27, where he said “the vibe was bad.”
