Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder and Catherine O'Hara all return for “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” the long-awaited sequel to Tim Burton's 1988 comedy-horror classic. Also along for the ride this time around is newcomer Jenna Ortega, fresh off her stint in Burton's Addams Family adaptation “Wednesday.”
Decades after the first “Beetlejuice,” Lydia Dietz (Ryder) has amassed a devoted following as the host of her own ghost-hunting show. Too bad his estranged daughter thinks all this supernatural hocus pocus is little more than smoke and mirrors for profit. After a family tragedy, Lydia returns to her old home in Winter River, where she is forced to face the hijinks of her eccentric stepmother (O'Hara) and the evil spirit Betelgeuse (Keaton). It's a fantastic spooky adventure for the whole family, filled with light-hearted slapstick comedy and witty scares that are more entertaining than scary.

'Lonely Planet' (Netflix)
see
If you want to sit in fear, Netflix has a juicy new romantic drama from “Erin Brockovich” writer Susannah Grant starring Laura Dern and Liam Hemsworth. Dern plays Catherine, a novelist who is stuck in a rut after breaking up with her former sculptor, who is a cancer survivor. A sunny retreat in Morocco seems to be the cure for writer's block.
There, she meets Wayne (Hemsworth), a young man who has come on a retreat with his girlfriend, and sparks fly despite their age difference. After a few chance encounters, their friendship blossoms into something more, beginning a life-changing love affair. While it's unlikely to throw any narrative curveballs, “Lonely Island” looks like a tender drama with two stunning leads and an equally gorgeous setting that should be enough to keep viewers on the edge of their seats.

M. Night Shyamalan is back, this time with a new mystery thriller from “Topside” directors Logan George and Celine Held. It is set in the rural, swampy community of Carnac, Texas, which is rocked by the disappearance of an 8-year-old girl. Her half-sister Ellie (Eliza Scanlen) is determined to get to the bottom of things, which sees her cross paths with another local, Paris (Dylan O'Brien), a young man still reeling from the death of his mother, who had a seizure that drove them both to Caddo Lake. Sent with care.
As strange things begin to happen, their investigation uncovers shocking revelations about the lake and long-buried secrets. Much of the plot is kept under wraps, but the trailer makes it clear that there are some sci-fi, period elements at play. And this being a Shyamalan movie, it's bound to have twists and turns.
