Meat recall: 10M pounds of meat and poultry recalled due to listeria contamination; Throw as soon as possible

A pre-cooked meat producer is recalling nearly 10 million pounds of ready-to-eat meat and poultry products due to listeria contamination.

According to a notice from the US Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service, Brewpack has recalled approximately 9,986,245 pounds of product after routine testing found evidence of listeria contamination in Brewpack's ready-to-eat poultry products.

No illnesses or adverse reactions related to this withdrawal have been reported to date.

The affected products were shipped to distributors and retailers nationwide, and some of the affected products had a production date as late as October 8, 2024.

That means many products are still in consumers' freezers or refrigerators or even available on store shelves or stored in restaurants, according to FSIS.

The following items are subject to recall:

  • Prepared meat and poultry items with production dates from June 19, 2024 through October 8, 2024, with establishment number “51205 or P-51205” on packaging.

BrucePack and the USDA are still in the process of pulling together a list of recalled products. Although multiple meat items are being recalled, listeria contamination has been found in ready-to-eat chicken products, according to the USDA.

The agency is advising consumers who purchased these products not to eat them and to throw them out or return them to the place of purchase.

Retailers are advised not to sell the recalled products and either discard them or return them to their distributors.
