NY Mets vs Philadelphia Phillies Live Score, NLDS Game 3 Updates

NEW YORK – The New York Mets return home to Citi Field for the first time in more than three weeks. And the stakes could not be higher.

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza predicted it would be time for the final homestand. The team made it a reality with a dream final two weeks of the season, including dramatic comebacks against the Braves in the regular season and the Brewers in Game 3 of the NL Wild Card.

Now, Mets fans will have a chance to soak in the team's success when they take on the Phillies in Game 3 of the National League Division Series at Citi Field on Tuesday at 5:08 p.m. The series is tied 1-1 and the Mets are hoping for a chance to clinch the series win at home.

“It definitely brings a different energy being here at home, but at the end of the day, we gave what we had on the road and we're going to do the same thing here at home,” Francisco Lindor said. . “It's one of those things where it doesn't matter where we're playing, we're going to go out and give it everything we've got.”

With the Mets and Phillies looking to step up their NLDS matchup on Tuesday, here are live updates and analysis from Game 3:

Francisco Lindor helps the Mets add

In the game against Phillies closer Carlos Estevez, Francisco Lindor laced an RBI double down the right-field line to score JD Martinez who drew a pinch-hit walk to lead off the bottom of the eighth inning.

The Mets lead the Phillies 7-2 in the top of the ninth.

Sean Mania gave up on the Mets bullpen after seven solid innings

Shawn Mania was pulled in the eighth inning but was pulled after Carlos Mendoza gave up a leadoff infield single to Edmundo Sosa. Sosa would later score on an RBI single by Bryce Harper off Phil Matton.

Manaya finished with one earned run, allowing three hits and two walks while striking out six over seven innings.

Matton, who also walked Kyle Schwarber, was charged with a run when Ryne Stanek gave up an RBI single to Nick Castellanos that cut the Mets' lead to 6-2.

Jose Iglesias added to the Mets' lead

Jose Alvarado struggled to keep the Mets away in the seventh inning.

After Francisco Alvarez struck out and Francisco Lindor popped up, Mark Vientos lined a single to Alvarado's leg and Brandon Nimmo and Pete Alonso both walked. With the bases loaded and Jose Ruiz entering for the Phillies, Jose Iglesias lined a two-run single up the middle to put the Mets up 6-0.

Sterling Marte cashed in with a bases-loaded at-bat

New York Mets outfielder Starling Marte (6) celebrates after hitting a two-RBI single against the Philadelphia Phillies in the sixth inning of Game 3 of the NLDS for the 2024 MLB playoffs on Oct. 8, 2024, at Citi Field.

The Mets had the pressure against Aaron Knowles in the bottom of the sixth inning. Mark Vientos knocked in a leadoff single and Brandon Nimmo and Pete Alonso walked to load the bases.

That was the end of Nola's night.

With the bases loaded and Orion Kerkering for the Phillies, Jose Iglesias grounded into a fielder's choice, Vientos was thrown out. Then, Jesse Winker flied out to shallow left field. But Starling Marte made sure the pressure was not wasted. He looped a two-run single to put the Mets up 4-0.

Nola finished with four earned runs in five innings while allowing five hits and two walks with eight strikeouts.

A huge double ended Phillies' pressure

Sean Mania's command seemed to be teetering to start the sixth inning when he issued back-to-back walks to Kyle Schwarber and Trea Turner.

But Jose Iglesias erased the threat by striking out left-hander Bryce Harper and picking up a line-drive double play by Nick Castellanos that stranded Schwarber in the middle of the diamond.

The Mets led 2-0 in the top of the sixth.

Aaron Nola struck out in the fifth

The Mets have only been able to capitalize on Aaron Nola's few mistakes, otherwise Phillies Wright has been dialed up.

Nola fanned Tyron Taylor, Francisco Alvarez and Francisco Lindor in order in the fifth inning to run his strikeout total to eight.

The Mets lead 2-0 after five innings in Game 3.

Jesse Winker's first playoff home run widens the gap

New York Mets outfielder Jesse Winker (3) celebrates after hitting a solo home run in the fourth inning against the Philadelphia Phillies during Game 3 of the NLDS for the 2024 MLB playoffs on Oct. 8, 2024 at Citi Field.

Despite giving up a solo home run to Pete Alonso in the second inning, Alec Boehm needed just 32 pitches to get through the first three innings.

That efficiency changed in the fourth inning. Jesse Winker saw three pitches before ripping a solo home run on a fastball in the second. Nola's pitch count went from 51 to four with the Mets leading 2-0.

Tyrone Taylor's outstanding play cut off Alec Boehm

In most cases, the ball Alec Bohm hit in the fourth inning would mean extra bases.

Boehm made a first-pitch change into the right-center field gap, but Tyron Taylor gave it a bounce off the wall with his bare hands and rifled the throw to second base and Francisco Lindor made the tag to record the out.

Shaun Mania went three goalless

After not giving up a hit through the first two innings, Mets left-hander Sean Mania ran into his first problem in the top of the third inning.

He hit Edmundo Sosa in the opening at-bat of the frame and allowed a two-out single to Trey Turner. Facing Bryce Harper, Manaya induced a weak ground ball back to the mound to record the final out.

Mania struck out both Johan Rojas and Kyle Schwarber in the innings. Mets lead 1-0.

Pete Alonso belted a solo home run to give the Mets the lead

New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso (20) after hitting a solo home run in the second inning against the Philadelphia Phillies during Game 3 of the NLDS for the 2024 MLB playoffs at Citi Field on Oct. 8, 2024.

Pete Alonso is starting to catch fire in the 2024 postseason.

On the first pitch he saw against Aaron Nola in Game 3, Alonso belted an opposite-field home run off the face of the second deck in right field. It gave the Mets a 1-0 lead over the Phillies in the bottom of the second inning.

Coming off his series-clinching blast in Game 3 of the NL wild card series on Oct. 3, Alonso now has three home runs in his last four playoff games.
