Elon Musk is facing criticism for wondering aloud which high-profile people were aware of the widespread abuse allegations against Sean “Diddy” Combs, even as Musk counts the mogul as an investor and friend.
Musk went to X in response to the latest round of allegations against Combs, with a group of lawyers vowing to bring more than 100 sexual-harassment lawsuits and roll back the alleged “wall of silence” of famous people who enabled the musician.
“How many people in music and entertainment knew about this?” musk ask His followers on October 1.
Many pointed to Musk's own relationship with Combs, who was arrested by federal agents on racketeering and sex-trafficking charges and denied wrongdoing.
“Hmmm maybe you should have asked him when he invested in your Twitter deal,” Mack wrote on X in response to the tweet.
“How many times have you met DD,” ask Condé Nast Legal Affairs Editor Luke Zaleski.
“You literally have a picture of yourself with Ghislaine Maxwell,” added music critic Anthony Fantano, referring to the late Jeffrey Epstein's key ally. Maxwell and Musk were photographed together in 2014, after Epstein reached a plea deal with Florida prosecutors accused of sexually abusing dozens of girls over the years.
A fund tied to Combs is an investor in X, according to a list of funders unsealed in federal court in August.
Musk also once boasted that he and Combs were good friends, according to the new book character limitby New York Times Journalists Kate Conger and Ryan Mack.
The claim reportedly came during a meeting in which an executive from Revolt TV, a media company Coombs founded, raised concerns about growing racism at X.
“'I don't know if you know this, but Puff is an investor on Twitter,' [Musk] said using Combs' nickname, according to the book. We text a lot.'
independent Musk has been contacted for comment.
Federal prosecutors alleged that Combs was the architect and leader of a “criminal enterprise” that allegedly involved arson, kidnapping, forced labor, bribery, obstruction of justice and sex trafficking.
Police said they recovered a defaced serial number, assault rifle along with narcotics and “1,000 bottles of baby oil and lubricant” from Combs' residence, allegedly used in exploitative situations called “freak offs.”
Separately, many women have accused the mogul of sexual misconduct.
News outlets leaked video of Diddy brutally beating his then-girlfriend, singer Casey, in a hotel hallway. He later apologized.
