'Law & Order': How Camryn Manheim's Dixon Was Written Off in Season 24 Premiere
law and order Fans finally got some closure due to Camryn Manheim's sudden departure.
After the actress left the show after last season, Thursday's Season 24 premiere of 'Catch and Kill' finally explains the absence of Manheim's Lt. Kate Dixon, who moved in with her deaf son Patrick (portrayed by James Caverly).
In the episode, Junior Detective Vincent Reilly (Reed Scott) receives a text from Dixon. “Patrick got a great job at a school in Miami. Mom's tagging along. Don't want to make a big deal about it, tears and all that. Come around,” she reads the text to Shaw (Mehkad Brooks).
'Catch and Kill' introduces Jessica Brady (Maura Tierney), replacing Dixon as the new commanding officer of the Manhattan North Homicide Squad's 27th Precinct.
After the original 20-season run from 1990 to 2010 on NBC, Manheim joined the cast when it was revived for Season 21 in 2022. Although her departure was announced in May, the season 23 finale featured Dixon without any indication of her departure.
“I thank Camryn for her three great seasons in helping us get back on track law and order“She's a class act and I wish her nothing but the best for her next chapter,” creator Dick Wolff said in a statement to Deadline at the time.
After returning star Sam Waterston left the role of District Attorney Jack McCoy earlier in the season, Tony Goldwyn replaced him as DA Nicholas Baxter.
Mannheim had small roles in seasons 1, 3 and 4 law and order.
