Garth Brooks is accused of sexual assault and battery in a lawsuit from a hair and makeup artist who worked for him. CNN
Country music star Garth Brooks has been charged with sexual assault and battery in a lawsuit from “Jane Rowe” who says she worked as a hairstylist and makeup artist for the award-winning singer.
The complaint, filed Thursday in a California state court and obtained by CNN, alleges the incidents occurred in 2019.
Brooks previously denied his accuser's claims, though representatives for the country superstar did not immediately respond to CNN's request for comment in response to Rowe's new lawsuit.
Prior to Roe's filing and first reported by CNN, an anonymous celebrity plaintiff — now revealed to be Brooks — tried to prevent Roe from publicly repeating his allegations and vehemently denied the claims, according to a previous complaint he filed as “John “Do.”
Rowe began operating hair and makeup services for Brooks in 2017, according to his suit, which says he was first hired in 1999 to do hair and makeup for his wife, Trisha Yearwood.
CNN has reached out to Yearwood's representatives for comment.
In addition to sexual assault and battery, the lawsuit accuses Brooks of repeatedly exposing her genitalia and buttocks; talking about sex and sharing sexual fantasies with Roe; Changes her clothes regularly in front of Rowe; and sending sexually explicit text messages.
In her filing, Roe claims that during an alleged incident in 2019, when she was at Brooks' home for work, he got out of the shower naked, “grabbed her by the hand and forced” her genitalia while talking to her with explicit and vulgar language.
In another alleged incident in May 2019, the lawsuit alleges that Brooks raped Rowe in a hotel room during a work trip to Los Angeles where Brooks was taping a Grammy tribute performance.
According to the lawsuit, Brooks and Roe traveled to Los Angeles on Brooks' private jet.
“Normally there are others on Brooks' private jet but this time, Ms. Rowe and Brooks were the only two passengers,” the complaint states. “Once at the hotel in Los Angeles, Ms. Rowe could not believe that Brooks had booked a one-bedroom hotel suite and did not have a separate room.”
Once they arrived at the hotel suite, Roe alleged the country singer “appeared at the bedroom door completely naked.” Rowe's complaint states that she was “trapped in a room alone with Brooks.”
After the alleged rape, Roe claims Brooks told her his sexual fantasies with increased frequency and physically restrained her. The complaint states that Brooks “repeatedly commented” about “having a threesome” with his wife.
As his complaint Dr Plaintiff John Doe, Brooks Claims Defendant Roe's Attorney Sent Him a “Confidential” Claim “Salary employment and medical benefits” after he denied Roe's request after the letter alleged sexual misconduct.
“The defendant's allegations are not true,” Brooks' previous lawsuit said. “Defendant is well aware, however, of the substantial, irreparable damage such false allegations will cause to Plaintiff's well-earned reputation and the inevitable loss to his family and the irreparable loss to his career and livelihood to Plaintiff's reputation as a decent and caring person. If he makes good on his threat to 'publicly file' his bogus case, there will be consequences.”
Roe's attorneys told CNN that Brooks' “attempt to silence our client by filing a premeditated complaint in Mississippi is nothing more than an attempt to frustrate and intimidate.”
“We are confident that Brooks will be held accountable for his actions,” attorney Douglas H. Wigdor, Jeanne M. Christensen and Hayley Baker said in a statement to CNN “We appreciate our client's courage in proceeding with his allegations against Garth Brooks. The complaint filed today demonstrates that sexual predators exist not only in corporate America, Hollywood and the rap and rock and roll industries, but also in the world of country music.”
