Chad McQueen, 'Karate Kid' star and only son of Steve McQueen, dies at 63
Chad McQueen, the only son of the late Hollywood legend Steve McQueen and an actor in his own right who starred in The Karate Kid Franchise as the “Dutch” character died Wednesday after suffering organ failure, his attorney told TMZ. He was 63 years old.
He died with his family at his home on a ranch in Palm Desert, California, the tabloid reported, citing McQueen's lawyer, Arthur Barens.
A previous injury caused organ failure that eventually claimed his life.
McQueen's wife, Ginny, and children, Chase and Madison, released a statement on Instagram Thursday that read: “It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father, Chad McQueen, his incredible journey as a loving father to us, our mother. With his unwavering commitment to, truly exemplifies a life filled with love and dedication.
“His passion for running not only highlighted his exceptional talent, but served as a way to honor his father's legacy, a testament to the values instilled in him. He has passed on his passion, knowledge and dedication to us and we will carry on not only his legacy, but also that of our forefathers. As a family we must navigate this difficult time and we kindly request privacy as we remember and celebrate her remarkable life.”
McQueen landed her breakout Hollywood role after playing Dutch D The Karate Kid He played the role in two original 1984 versions of the franchise The Karate Kid and “The Karate Kid II”, which was released two years later.
In his more than two-decade career, Chad has starred in 26 films and TV shows.
His first role was as a skateboarder in the 1978 sports drama skateboard. His final role was in an action flick in 2001 Downfall: The Price of Silence.
Chad was also the founder of McQueen Racing and often posted about the car on his social media.
