'SNL' Cold Open: Kamala Dances While Trump Longs For Old Biden

Saturday Night LiveIts 50th season premiere features alum Maya Rudolph reprising her role as “fun aunt” Kamala Harris, as Donald Trump and JD Vance try not to upset their attendees at a cheery campaign rally.

Rudolph, whose casting as Harris was announced in July, was first cast five years ago when the then-California senator was seeking the Democratic nomination. The following year, he returned to the late-night show as Biden's running mate.

Now, Rudolph has a running mate of his own: Tim Walz, as portrayed by comedian Jim Gaffigan.

“Guys, I haven't been this excited since I got ten percent off a leaf blower at Menard's!” told the Midwestern crowd.

“It's personal for me,” he added later. “I love this country. And as a former teacher, I need money.”

After walking away from the stage, Rudolph introduced her husband, Doug Emhoff. the former SNL Cast member Andy Samberg took on that role, introducing himself as the “second gentleman”.

Meanwhile, at Trump's rally—in its third hour—the former president (James Austin Johnson) was spending time worrying about his supporters getting up and leaving the venue.

“Where is everyone going? Where are you going? I see you trying to leave, but the door is closed! He said the shot panned back to Rudolph, who was dancing behind the podium.

In a pained voice, she then expressed how much she missed President Joe Biden.

“We wouldn't give anything for him to stand by me and grow old!” He whines about how his re-election chances have plummeted and repeats the idea that pets are being eaten by immigrants.

To help explain that conspiracy, Trump enlists JD Vance (Bowen Yang), who lies about it despite knowing there's nothing to back up his claims in real life.

“By now I'm sure you've all heard what the liberal media has been saying about me. I'm a creep. I'm a weirdo. What am I doing here?” he says, referencing Radiohead's “Creep”.

“I'll tell you what I'm doing here: getting this crowd hyped!” He said, one sitting behind him got up.

After cutting the feed from the GOP rally after Vance began explaining Project 2025, the unpopular right-wing agenda that Trump has tried to distance himself from despite his many links to it, Rudolph—still dancing—welcomed President Joe Biden, played by Dana Carvey, to the stage.

Rudolph finished his remarks quickly, still struggling to string a sentence together. He then closed the sketch with a promise to voters.

“If we win,” he said, “we can end the drama and the trauma together and relax in our pajamas.”
