Anna Delvey slams 'DWTS' for 'exploiting' her 'for attention': 'It was predatory'

Anna Delvi doesn't think she was given a “fair chance” to “dance with the stars”.

Following the former bride's exit from the ABC reality show on Tuesday, she opened up about the backlash she received over her casting and the surprising way she exited the competition.

“I think that the show obviously used me to boost ratings, that they had no plans to give me a chance to grow and were only interested in exploiting me for attention,” Delvey told NBC News in an interview published Friday.

“It was predatory for them to try [to] I feel inadequate and stupid while I get better and better yet they choose to ignore it.”

Earlier this week, Delvy, 33, was eliminated after performing a quick-step routine to Katie Tunstall's “Suddenly I See” with her partner Ezra Sosa.

“It felt like I was never given a fair chance by the audience or the judges because of their unfair scoring,” she also told NBC News — a week after Sabrina Carpenter's “Espresso” and a cha-cha dance scored 18 out of 30 possible points.

“This is supposed to be a dance competition and not a popularity contest.”

When it came time for Delvy to leave “DWTS,” the show's co-host Julianne Hough asked what she wanted to take away from the experience. “Nothing,” she replied before smiling.

On Wednesday, she told “Good Morning America” that her favorite part of the experience was “being left out.”

When ABC first announced that Delvy would compete in the show's 33rd season, many begged the network to reconsider. Delvy said the reaction to her casting made her realize “how easily people will judge you without knowing the true story of you or your story.”

Delvey, a felon, was convicted by a New York state court in 2019 of three counts, one count of attempted grand larceny and four counts of theft of services, among other offenses, after he defrauded various individuals and businesses.

He bilked New York City's upper class, hotels and banks out of hundreds of thousands of dollars, pretending to be a wealthy German heir.

He served two years in prison and was released on parole in February 2021.

Shortly thereafter, he was taken into custody by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for overstaying his visa. He was sidelined until March 2022 and has since worn an ankle monitor.

“I'm trying to start a new chapter with past mistakes that I made and regret when I was much younger,” Delvy told NBC News.

“Not sure when people will finally afford me that second chance and stop harassing me so I can get on with my life.”

Delvy, who said she doesn't watch TV and won't keep up with the show as it goes on, expects “Family Matters” star Reginald Veljonsson to win.

“Dancing with the Stars” and ABC did not immediately respond to Page Six's requests for comment.
