Week 2 Injury Report (Broncos)
The Steelers continue their preparation for Sunday's game against the Denver Broncos, practicing Thursday at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex.
There was one new addition to the report, linebacker Patrick Quinn missing practice with a groin injury.
From a quarterback perspective, things seemed similar.
Quarterback Russell Wilson was limited for the second straight day with a calf injury that sidelined him in the season opener against the Falcons.
With Wilson dealing with an injury, the Steelers continue to prepare for Justin Fields at quarterback.
“I come in every week the same way I'm going to play,” Fields said. “I'd rather be prepared. I have that mindset. It's the same process for me.”
Receiver Roman Wilson is hoping this week that he finally gets on the field. He participated fully in practice for the first time on Thursday.
Wilson missed the entire preseason after suffering an ankle injury early in training camp, as well as the season opener against the Falcons.
“I'm going to be pretty excited,” Wilson said, when he gets a chance to play. “It's something that I had when I was a kid, playing in my first NFL game and finally getting a chance.
“But what I really think about at night is to come here the next day and work and do whatever I can to make myself better.”
Wilson said he felt good when he got on the field for practice.
“It was good,” Wilson said. “Just a chance to go out there and work. I've got another chance tomorrow. That's what I'm focused on. So, it'll be good.
“I take it as it comes. It's up to the coaches. All I can do is focus on tomorrow. Just focus on that and be good.”
Although he hasn't seen any NFL game action, Wilson, one of the team's third-round draft picks this year, thinks he's ready to do whatever he's asked.
“I've been working a lot, trying to get back into it,” Wilson said. “Even the moment I got hurt, I felt like I could find a way to push through it and come back the same week and practice the next day. So, that's just my mentality.”
One player notable for his absence from the injury report is No. 1 pick Troy Fautanu. Dan Moore Jr. missed practice Wednesday with an ankle injury, but Moore returned Thursday.
Fautanu has been dealing with a knee injury since the preseason, but he seems to have turned the corner, working where asked in practice.
“Stepping in whenever needed,” says Fatnu. “Showing up every day, trying to get better.
“Whenever you know somebody goes down for a little bit. You don't carry a lot of guys like we did in college. It's good for Vol to try to get back into it after being out for a few weeks.”
Fatnu said she will be ready when called to play.
“I am. The last week, the last two weeks have been really preparing myself mentally, more than anything really,” Fatnu said. “I think that's the biggest step in the last few weeks, trying to make sure I'm ready.
“I think I'm ready. I know I'm ready.”
Fautanu admits that losing time in practice and pre-season has been tough, feeling like he's lost his stride. But he's making up for lost time.
“Three weeks missing, it was three weeks I was not able to be good,” said Fautanu. “I've been more mentally locked in so when I get back out there, I'm playing faster.
“Whatever role they give me this game, whatever the game, I'm ready to go.”
