Jane's Addiction canceled the rest of the tour after Perry Farrell and Dave Navarro fought on stage
Jane has an addiction Bandmates Perry Farrell and Dave Navarro have decided to cancel their first tour in 14 years after an onstage fight.
Jane's Addiction announced the decision on social media, saying, “The band has made the difficult decision to take some time off as a group. Hence, they will cancel the rest of the tour.” Refunds, they continued, will be issued at the time of purchase.
The band's official statement was accompanied by a message shared by Navarro and co-signed by drummer Stephen Perkins and bassist Eric Avery. They said that “the tour has been canceled due to our singer Perry Farrell's continued pattern of behavior and mental health issues.”
They continued: “Our concern for his personal health and safety, as well as our own, has left us with no choice. We hope he gets the help he needs. We deeply regret that we cannot come for all our fans who have already purchased tickets. Can't see a solution that will either ensure a safe environment on stage or reliably allow us to deliver great performances on a nightly basis.
Pharrell and Navarro clashed during Jane's Addiction's September 13 show in Boston while the band was performing “Ocean Size”. Per Jambase, Pharrell yelled at Navarro during “Mountain Song” and the pair continued to feud through “Three Days”. Then, during “The Shape of the Ocean,” Pharrell became agitated, walked up to Navarro and hit the guitarist's back with his shoulder. Pharrell continued to yell at a confused Navarro, with the singer eventually hitting the guitarist on his shoulder.
A crew member tried to restrain Pharrell, and when the singer tried to lunge at Navarro again, two other crew members, as well as bassist Eric Avery, had to help restrain him. Eventually, Pharrell was brought backstage and Navarro soon left the stage as well. The show ended after about 11 songs (about three or four less than the band).
According to reports, tension between the band has been simmering as the Jane's Addiction core lineup kicks off their reunion tour back in August. At an earlier gig, Pharrell's long-winded rapport with the crowd appeared to frustrate Navarro.
Following the incident in Boston, Jane's Addiction issued a “heartfelt apology” to fans and canceled their scheduled September 15 gig in Bridgeport, Connecticut. The rest of the now-scheduled tour will run through late September.
